Help Taani , Phil & Dani through a difficult time
Donation protected
My name is Erica, and I'm a co-worker of Paul Ammon, Taani's father. After hearing about the difficult time Taani and her family are currently going through, and will continue to go through, the team at Nelnet wanted to help. So we are starting this campaign to make it easier for everyone who would like to contribute and share it with others.
Taani was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital last Monday after experiencing quite a few concerning symptoms. She was sent to the ER for an emergency MRI. The results of the MRI led to a spinal tap and a full body MRI with contrast on Tuesday. The results confirmed that she has a very aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in an advanced stage. MS is an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. They found 16 lesions between Taani's head and tailbone. They also found lumps on her lymph nodes which will have to be biopsied once they get the existing symptoms under control. Taani is out of the hospital now and is back home with her family, but faces a long road ahead.
The doctors think that because the flare-up went so long, permanent nerve damage may have been done. Only time will tell if it's definitely permanent, but it could take up to 6 months for the nerves to regrow. Taani has complete numbness from her hips to her toes, causing her to not have much control over the strength in her legs while her feet feel like they have fallen asleep. The hope is that through lifestyle changes and keeping up with her specialist, that she can prolong another flare-up.
Taani has been seeing a radiologist, neurologist, and a physical therapist who specializes in MS. She will be doing at home physical therapy, and has been receiving steroid treatments through an outpatient clinic.
Taani and Phil have a beautiful 18 month old daughter, Dani. As we all know, keeping up with a mobile toddler is no small feat. Taani works in a restaurant, but will likely not be able to return in her condition. They will be down to one income for at least a few months until her medical issues are figured out and she can find a job that will suit her limitations. On top of this stressful situation, the townhouse they have been renting has recently been sold so they will need to move in the next couple of weeks.
The money raised will go towards Taani's medical bills, medication, at home equipment, physical therapy home care, and any other daily living expenses that need to be covered until she starts working again. Any amount you can provide is greatly appreciated for this young, loving family.
Thank you ❤
