INTRODUCTION

Hello, my name is Annie Fergerson and thank you for taking this time to read about a beautiful and sweet woman named Tabatha Maddox. I want to tell you a story about this brave young woman and what she has been living with for some time now. So sit back and relax as you read Tabatha’s story.

THE CAUSE

Tabatha has been fighting with her right lower leg and foot for a long while. She has had six surgeries and with the last one, the doctor let her know that she now has a RARE BONE INFECTION called OSTEOMYELITIS. This infection, if not corrected, can be fatal. So, with that information in hand, Tabatha realizes that she has no choice. The Specialist wants to immediately amputate her lower leg but she is not ready emotionally to handle this news and begs them to give her some time. They give her a month longer, June 8th is the day. The doctor told her that is all the time they could give her.

OSTEOMYELITIS

What is this rare bone infection you ask? Simply put, her right leg and foot have lost their blood supply. This leads to death of the bone tissue and subsequently when this happens the bones will collapse. So, as you can see, she has no way out but to have her right foot and lower leg amputated.

DEALING WITH THE NEWS

She leaves the doctor’s building feeling distraught, angry, scared and sad.  Her head is spinning. She has every right to feel all these emotions. I mean if it were you getting this information would you not have all those emotions and more? Most of all, she is angry. You ask why? Because the Specialist told her that she was exposed to this monster,Osteomyelitis, from the hospital during one of her surgeries! It was nothing that she did to herself. She is devastated but over the next few days,  she realizes that being angry is not going to solve anything. She tries to think of things she can do while she still has her two legs. Something fun but it can’t take up too much time. Time, yes,  it is so valuable now. She looks for some kind of work that she might do at home but has no luck at all. As the days start flying by, or so she feels like they are flying by, she is getting more and more stressed.

WHY STRESS

We all know that stress does nothing good. But, Tabatha is stressing over having no  money to pay bills. You know,  everyday bills,  such as electricity, water, gas and anything else she is billed for on a monthly basis. But, the hardest stresses of all, her car, and her apartment. Where will she live? What happens when she gets out of the hospital? She worries every day over all of these stresses.

CHALLENGES

Challenges, you might want to ask? Yes, when Tabatha comes home from the hospital she will have many challenges, as you might imagine.  At first, it will be like starting over. She will have to learn how to walk again since she now is walking on one leg. All the little things that many of us take for granted, will be difficult for her. For instance, she has an upstairs apartment. How, you might ask, will she handle those stairs? That is something she has not figured out. Truthfully, she needs a handicapped apartment that is downstairs and wheelchair accessible. But, she can not move because of added expenses that she will not be able to afford. She also knows there are many challenges that she has not even thought of yet. She will have to learn to take things day by day.

LOOKING FOR TABATHA’S HEROS

Yes, you can be her hero! By donating to her fund, she will be able to pay those bills that are haunting her. She will be able to make a car payment and her rent. Each of you can become her hero. You can relieve some of the stress. Donations to help her survive the aftermath of her amputation, is almost a dream for Tabatha. She and I both pray for the help she needs and we do find hope, with GoFundMe.

FIGHTING TO BECOME THE NEW TABATHA

    (TABATHA’S JOURNEY)

Tabatha knows that she has a long road ahead of her.  After the surgery, she will begin grueling and painful rehabilitation. Her doctors tell her it could take up to a year and she will not be allowed to work during this process.  I know that each day, and with your help, she will become a stronger Tabatha than before. Her journey to become the new and improved Tabatha will begin after her surgery. She will learn to adapt to her new way of life and I know she can make it happen. I know you all do not want to miss her amazing journey and you will know with the updates I add to this fund. It will be like you were right by her side cheering her on. In time, she will find a way with everyone’s encouragement, to live her new life with courage and grace. And each one of you that donates, have been the driving force to her recovery.

WHY THIS MATTERS TO ME (ANNIE)

Why does this matter to me? Great question! Tabatha has a piece of my heart.  She is such a beautiful person inside and out. She is always checking on others, even though she is going through so much herself. I have told her that I am here anytime she needs me. She deserves that and so much more.

So, as you ask, why does this matter to Annie? You also need to ask yourself, when can I start helping Tabatha? The answer is you can start right now! We are taking all donations and we appreciate them so very much.

DONATIONS

Your next question will possibly be how much can I donate? My answer to each of you is to look into your heart. What does it say to you? Donate so you can help this young woman get through a difficult time in her life. We of course will accept any and every donation offered and we graciously say “Thank you” to each and every person who takes that step for Tabatha.

UPDATES

Yes of course we will update you. You will have front row seating for the updates. Every time I write an update or add photos, GoFundMe will send you a notification. You can then read how Tabatha is doing,  what she is learning and how she is adapting. And in the end,  you will have followed this journey with Tabatha. You can even comment on the update or ask questions. And you may be so excited with her progress that you want to donate again!! And we promise we won’t stop you! LoL

GRATITUDE

Last but not least, I want to thank you for the time you have spent reading Tabatha’s story, for prayers said in her name and any and all donations. You give a part of yourself when you donate. It shows how caring and kind each of you are for donating. So, as the advocate for Tabatha, I want to give you a warm thank you from the bottom of my heart. Tabatha is such a good friend and I want to do everything I can to see her succeed and I know you do.
