My name is Tahmaj Lawler-Powell. I am an incoming freshman at the prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. I have received ninety-five thousand dollars in scholarships from Milton Hershey high school. Although this is an abundant amount of money, My tuition is much more. This is why l am reaching out to my hometown community for assistance. As we all know, it takes a village.
I was born and raised in Chester, Pa. I attended Chester Community charter school k-8 and graduated with honors. I was blessed with the opportunity to attend Milton Hershey High school, where I am currently enrolled as a senior graduating this June. Throughout my life in Chester, I have seen many misdeeds. Choosing to be a product of my choices and not my environment, I worked hard not to be the stereotypical black man America puts on young black men. When I ride through Chester, I see many abandoned houses, unkempt property, dollar stores, teddy bears on corners, and parents crying. What I do not see is enough Black-owned businesses, homeowners, and youth programs. This is why it is so important to me to attend college to put myself in a position to help my community.
Why me? I have asked myself this question many times. Why do I have to be the change? Why does my family tell me I'm different and I'll make it? I only recently figured out the answer to these questions. It's because when everyone around me was living in the moment, I was looking to the future. I was planning my next move. I was studying the stock market in middle school. I was looking for a college to attend when I first heard of college. I was looking up ways to make passive income and end the cycle of poverty.
But I don't think I'm different. In my opinion, I was just brave enough to try something different from the norm regardless of the chance of being ridiculed. In any case, I am not waiting for anyone to bring a change; I'll bring it myself without letting any opportunity for me to improve myself go to waste. Fulfilling my dream of empowering and helping people improve their lives by chasing their dreams, whether it's entrepreneurship or a career working for someone. It's never too late, and it's never over.
From playing baseball at Crozer park, football with the Chester panthers, basketball with the salvation army, and riding with the swerve and traffic boys, I saw Chester's potential. I need your help to fulfill my goals. I am majoring in computer science and minoring in finance. During college, I want to obtain my real estate license. After college, I want to work at one of the leading technology companies to gain experience.
After a while, I'm going to start my own technology company revolving around renewable energy. Once I get the company started and prosperous, I will retire from my job to focus on my business. I plan to make my hometown Chester, Pa, the headquarters for my company in the hope of increasing the economy of Chester. In addition, I plan to buy property in Chester with the intention of helping residents become homeowners. Also, I want to help small businesses flourish and open new attractions for residents. Overall I want to help make Chester prosperous and safe for future generations, but again I need your assistance in fulfilling my dreams of helping reach Chester, Pennsylvania's potential. To help me, you can write a check out to Morehouse or cashapp me.
Thank you, Tahmaj, Lawler-Powell
