Help Tamaquito II Preserve Their Heritage
Donation protected
I am Emma, a professor and anthropologist, raising funds for Tamaquito II, a Wayúu community in La Guajira, Colombia. The people of Tamaquito II are working to rebuild after being forced to leave their ancestral territory and relocate to a new settlement. They are one of many communities impacted by the world's largest open pit coal mine: Cerrejón.
Despite the challenges they have faced, the people of Tamaquito II are committed to preserving their Indigenous culture, language, and traditions. This fundraiser is for their ethno-education programs where children learn Wayúu history and language. They also practice traditional dances (shown here) and games.
Help Tamaquito II keep their culture and identity alive so that the next generation can carry on their traditions.
For more information about the community, check out the documentary about their resettlement process: La Buena Vida
