Help Tato Fight Cancer - Ayuda Tato Contra Cancer

Hi, we are Gaby and Conrado, and we are the parents of this brave boy called Tato. Our kid has been a fighter since he was very young. At 8 months old he got diagnosed with brain cancer. Hearing this news was devastating, but we decided to fight and give it all since day one.

He had 14 tumors, pilocytic astrocytomas, and his prognosis was not very encouraging. We were in the hospital for 4 long and hard months. After 16 surgeries and 17 days in the intensive care unit, we went home and continued with 2 years of chemotherapy. All this thanks to his doctors, our families and friends who have always been there for us.

It seemed everything was going well and that we were ready to leave this behind, but after 1 year the cancer started to grow back again. The idea of putting Tato through chemo and all its side effects again, was heartbreaking. Fortunately his doctor told us about the possibility, since his tumors have the BRAF V600E mutation, of using targeted therapy, a new generation of cancer fighting meds. They attack the tumors more precisely with less side effects than regular chemo. But there is a downside, it is extremely expensive.

Tato has been on this targeted therapy for over a year now and we are very happy with the results. His new treatment has shrunken the tumors like never before, without making him so weak. This has permitted Tato to go to school, to his rehab therapies, continue almost normally with his life, and get to his 5th birthday!!!

This 4 and a half years we´ve been battling his disease, although we have accomplished a lot, it has been exhausting in every possible way. Our family has suffered a lot financially too. That is why we are here today sharing our story and asking for your support so we can continue helping Tato fight cancer.

With our heart in our hand we ask for your help so we can finish this race that, although it has been very tough, it has enabled us to keep hugging our little superhero.

Hola somos Gaby y Conrado, y somos los papás de este valiente niño llamado José Antonio, mejor conocido como Tato. Nuestro hijo ha sido un luchador desde muy pequeño, a los 8 meses fue diagnosticado con cáncer cerebral. Enterarnos de esta noticia fue muy duro, pero desde el día uno que empezó esta aventura decidimos luchar y darlo todo.

Eran 14 tumores, astrocitomas pilociticos, su pronóstico no era muy alentador, pasamos largos y difíciles 4 meses en el hospital. Después 16 cirugías y 17 días de terapia intensiva, continuamos con dos años de quimioterapia. Todo esto gracias al esfuerzo de sus doctores, nuestras familias y amigos que nos apoyaron en todo momento.

Parecía que todo iba bien y que al fin dejaríamos todo esto atrás, pero después de 1 año de vigilancia el cáncer volvió a asomarse. La idea de volver someterlo a las agotadoras quimios nos partía el corazón, afortunadamente su doctor nos hablo de la posibilidad, dado que sus tumores tienen la mutacion BRAF V600E, de someterlo a un tratamiento nuevo llamado terapia blanco (targeted therapy) que permite atacar al tumor sin los efectos secundarios que la quimio provoca; pero es extremadamente caro. Tato ya tiene más de 1 año con esta nueva terapia y estamos muy contentos con los resultados. Su nuevo medicamento ha encogido los tumores como nunca y sin debilitarlo. Esto le ha permitido ir a la escuela, a sus terapias de rehabilitación , continuar con su vida casi con normalidad, y llegar a su cumpleaños número 5!

Desafortunadamente, los 4 años y medio que llevamos luchando con su enfermedad, aunque hemos logrado mucho, también ha sido agotador y nos ha afectado mucho económicamente. Es por eso que hoy estamos aquí compartiéndoles nuestra historia y pidiendo su apoyo para lograr continuar la lucha de Tato contra el cancer.

De corazón les pedimos su ayuda para terminar el último tramo de esta carrera, que aunque ha sido difícil nos ha permitido seguir abrazando a nuestro pequeño superhéroe.
