Help Team Westland Fight Cancer Together

We are writing this on behalf of our “brother” Mike Westland, his wife Jasmine, and their two beautiful sons Declan (9) and Hendricks (6), known affectionately by their many “uncles” as D-Money and H-Bomb.

On November 28th, 2022, Mike was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer, which then metastasized to his liver and eventually his bones. Over the last 22-months, Mike and his family have continued to fight this disease EVERY SINGLE DAY. This has included thirty-nine chemotherapy treatments, a partial hip replacement surgery, and many other cancer-related challenges/setbacks to his digestive system. That list however fails to fully measure the emotional weight also carried by those affected by the unrelenting presence of a cancer diagnosis, which brings with it a persistent uncertainty regarding every tomorrow.

Our brother would prefer we not bring attention to his and his family’s struggle. However we can’t do that. For over 40-years, Mike has been THE constant source of unwavering strength and unconditional love in all our lives. He’s carried us, time and time again, during our hardest moments. And yet as we say this, we know that our life experience with Mike has also been yours. The last two years have allowed us to witness what Mike means to his community, his co-workers, and the kids he coaches on the baseball diamond, the football field, and the ice. The joy, the strength, the loyalty, the laughter, and the love that are synonymous with the person we have always known are now evident in every new friend we meet of Mike’s.

Mike’s continued purpose in life is undeniable. However during this season, we now have the opportunity to give back to someone who has given so much.
