Ted Chabasinski is a respected elder in the patient' rights/psychiatric survivor movement, a retired attorney, a labor activist, a friend and mentor to many. He is now 88 years old and has been ill, with multiple stays at the hospital.
Ted is presently in a board and care house in uptown Oakland. He has been away from home since his first of several hospitalizations for complications of diabetes in late March of this year, with three hospitalizations and stays at community care facilities in between them. He now has an opportunity to move back to the apartment building in south Berkeley where he has resided for the past 46 years. He will need home health workers and needs help in paying the ongoing costs for out of home care in the meantime.
Ted is medically and emotionally fragile and in need to much supportive care. Donations will be used to pay for home health attendants and related expenses of daily living.
He will need assistance from professional caregivers after completing intensive rehabilitation. Ted lives on Social Security. He has no living family members and needs help in paying for people to assist him in his Berkeley apartment.
