Help Teddy & Diane Fidge

Ted has suffered an aquired brain injury from too many knocks to head while playing football for the Melbourne Demons FC during the early 1980s. He grew up in East Bentleigh (the old MFC recruiting zone), playing for StPeters in the Bentleigh-McKinnon Youth Centre league, and being an outstanding footballer was recriuited to play for the Demons in the big league.

As seen in the recent Current Affair report, Ted is suffering from the adverse effects of too many hits to the head, is unable to work, living in a rented premises; and is primarily under the care of his wife, Diane (who also earns the family income). After years of struggling, they have no resources left. Ted is facing the prospect of nursing home care in the not too distant future.

We all know the AFL needs to step up and take some responsibility for situations like this, as do the relevant football clubs (as do the individuals who chose to play a contact sport at the highest level). But we, supporters of the game, supporters of AFL clubs, people who grew up knowing Ted can also share in the heavy lifting. We cheer for elite footballers when they delight us with their skills and courage, and we can also dig deep when they need our help.

We cant solve all of their problems, but we can add some joy to their lives with a financial contribution.
