Help Terence & Ferrone Rebuild After Injustice
Donation protected
After 25 years of wrongful incarceration, Terence Richardson and Ferrone Claiborne are finally home. In a powerful act of justice and compassion, President Biden commuted their sentences on January 17, 2025, acknowledging the grave injustice that kept them behind bars for decades.
Now, as they prepare to re-enter the world, they need our support to rebuild their lives from the ground up. The injustice they survived in 1998, Terence and Ferrone were falsely accused of killing Officer Allen W. Gibson in Waverly, Virginia.
Although they initially pleaded not guilty, the looming threat of the death penalty and advice from their legal counsel led them to accept plea deals. In 2000, federal prosecutors launched an investigation into the case, and in 2001, a jury found them NOT GUILTY of murder.
However, in a devastating and unjust decision, the presiding judge overruled the jury and sentenced both men to life in prison—based solely on their original state court guilty pleas.
Since 2018, Life After Justice and co-founder Jarrett Adams, Esq. have been fighting to uncover the truth. Newly found exculpatory evidence further proved Richardson and Claiborne’s innocence, garnering support from officials like former Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring.
Where the fight stands today....
On January 17, 2025, President Biden took a crucial step toward justice by commuting the sentences of Terence Richardson and Ferrone Claiborne, allowing them to return home after over two decades of wrongful incarceration.
However, the fight for their full exoneration continues. While commutation grants them freedom, it does not erase the wrongful convictions from their records. We are still awaiting a decision on their Actual Innocence Petition before the Virginia Appellate Court to fully clear their names.
After more than 20 years behind bars for crimes they did not commit, both men are finally free. On the morning of March 5, 2025, Terence walked out of prison and into the arms of his loving mother, friends, family, and supporters. On the morning of April 8, 2025, Ferrone walked free and was reunited with Terence and his loved ones.
This is a monumental step in his journey toward justice. We are determined to see both men exonerated and fully restored.
