Help Terry Horst and his Family.

On Wednesday, June 28th, Terry was in a Zoom appointment with his neurologist when the doctor noticed something was not right with him. The appointment abruptly ended and Terry was sent straight to the emergency room. There it was determined that his heart was in Atrial Fibrilation (A-Fib), and that same day he was sent to Rapid City by ambulance where he has been ever since. Terry has had just about everything thrown his way since his time in the hospital.

On Monday, July 10th, Terry had a triple bypass open heart surgery. Nothing looked right from the beginning only to find out his heart was functioning at 20%, we could have lost him at any time. Things haven't been the same. After multiple days on the ventilator, he had a good nearly 24 hours without before he was right back on it. The doctors have removed him from the ventilator and he now sits in the ICU with a trach tube in his throat and a feeding tube. Unfortunately, Terry will have to learn all of the basic skills again to try to live a normal life.

Although you could say he is on the road to recovery, he still has a battle ahead of him. Monday, July 24th, Terry will be flown to Sioux Falls Sanford Health Hospital to begin an intense inpatient rehabilitation program. At the ripe old age of 63, we have every ounce of faith that he will do great and achieve his goals, regardless of the time away from home it will take.

This leaves our mother, Marion, with a home to take care of, bills to be paid, and lots of time traveling and staying in Sioux Falls so he will not be alone. Though we're confident we can keep her home standing while she's gone, we're not sure of the costs that's she's expecting. If Marion doesn't take care of herself, she won't be help for Terry, as she is not always in the best of health herself. We are trying to defray that stress from her shoulders and help ease the constant traveling, somehow.

We know it takes a village, and we most certainly have that. We appreciate any and all help that comes to our family during this time.
Keep the prayers coming!

Update as of 7-24-23: Today Terry was supposed to fly out to rehab in Sioux Falls. This morning he had an ultrasound done on his legs and a blood clot was found in his left leg. They had to postpone the flight. They cleaned out the clot and he ended up with a stent in the artery. As of right now it's unsure if he will be leaving Tuesday or Wednesday but will update as we go. We did get information that Marion is able to fly with him, so we're looking into getting her on that flight, depending on her own health. Thank you all!! Please continue sending prayers his way!

Update as of 7-25-23: Terry didn't go to Sioux falls today either. His chest tube started producing a lot more blood and the spot they went into yesterday to remove the clot also started bleeding pretty good. He had received 5 units of blood by this afternoon. They did a scope on him earlier this morning and cleaned some stuff up in his chest. As of this evening, things are looking a bit better and has received no other blood today. He is stable. Thank you to everyone sharing and donating. We appreciate it.

Update as of 7-26-23: Terry is doing better today. He can have sips of clear liquids, ice chips and suckers (he made it thru 2 of them). He is on a ventilator connected to the trach tube in his throat. They are going to try taking him off that early this evening. We are hoping he will be on his way to Sioux Falls on Friday.
Thank you again for the donations, and the prayers! We appreciate them so much!

Combined update for 7-27 and 7-28: One step forward and couple backwards. Terry had a good day yesterday, visiting (the best he can, he cannot talk), smiling. He did have a procedure yesterday evening to clear out blood pockets in his lung. Talking to mom last night, he said he was breathing better. As of today, Friday, Terry is back off the ventilator but very agitated and restless. Times are tough for him and we know there are good and bad days. We're hoping soon he will be headed to rehab in Sioux Falls. On behalf of our family, thank you. We are beyond appreciative of every share and every single person who has donated. Onward and upward!

Update for 7-29: Terry decided to give us a surprise today...he talked!! We have not heard his voice for 20 days. He has sized down on trach tubes, and most of the day it was capped as long as his breathing was steady. There were tears and laughs, the talking wore him out. He spent a majority of the day in his chair and as long as everything continued looking okay for him, he was allowed to sleep in the chair tonight. No doubt he has many more hurdles to overcome, but he's taking it day by day, and as long as he is positive, we stay positive. Every day is different for him and today was a good day. Thank you all for every share and every donation. We are truly grateful.

Update for 7-30 and 7-31: Not too much going on for the last few days. Terry has been agitated and a bit cranky, understood all things considered. Tomorrow is supposed to be the day to fly out (8-1). Prayers welcome as he finishes undergoing tests and scans through the evening to be cleared. Updates to be continued as we go through the next few days. Thank you everyone, we are truly appreciative. Onward and upward!

Update for 8-1: Terry made it to Sioux Falls this afternoon! This is good news. When he arrived he wanted everyone to know he was in good spirits and joking around. The nurses and doctors are in for a treat with him. We are ecstatic he finally made it. We know he is in good hands and one step closer to coming home. Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers, please keep them coming. He'll do great with rehabilitation, we have no doubt. Mom will be with him in a few days. Updates to be continued.
