Help Terry Keep His Family Safe After Hate Crime

Harvey 'Terry' Williams was born and raised in the Alamo Square Park neighborhood. His family has been homeowners for decades, and they are active and beloved members of the community who have always treated their neighbors with the utmost kindness and respect.

The morning of April 26th at approx 12:30AM, Terry was delivered a package containing a black doll, with a noose wrapped around its neck - with his name and picture of his face on it. The doll along with the other contents of the package were covered in horrifying racial phrases and slurs, including:

“Go pick cotton blackie”

“We found you”

“Chicken a la Noose”

“Alligator bait baby”

“Target on your back”

“Pre frontal cortex atrophy”

“Genetically inferior”

“Brute”

“Ape”

“N****”

On the morning of May 5th at approx 1:59AM, Terry was delivered a SECOND racist package. Contents were similar to the first package and contained a black face doll with noose. However, this time the threats escalated. With "Terry Williams" printed across the top of the doll's head, threats included "Get out of Alamo Square District", “Pure race whites rule the globe”, “We will continue to exterminate you n***** slaves”, and images of the KKK.

This is a blatant death threat and hate crime. Over the years, Terry has been subject to various accounts of racism, including being called racial slurs and baseless accusations, however this has been the most vagrant and vile.

We are asking the community to rally around Terry to support both him and his family. This money will be used to install a great security system (with cameras), help Terry relocate for a week until the police know more, and help take some financial pressure off the family during a very difficult and scary time.

We will also be hosting a rally against racism to show support for Terry, Saturday May 11 at 10:30AM in Alamo Square Park near the painted ladies. If you are local to SF, please join us!
