Help the Rivero family
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Kimberly Rivero. I started this gofundme to help my family during these hard times. My dad is currently intubated and on a ventilator in the ICU and we don’t have a discharge date.
On April 30th, 2022 my dad asked to be taken to the hospital because he felt sick and had shortness of breath. Me and my mom were sick before this and we thought he had just caught a cold like we had. When we first got to the hospital they said my dad had a common cold but he was so sick the doctors thought he had to have something else. The days went by and my dad got worse in the hospital, he was suppose to get a procedure done so we could see what was going on but my dads body was so weak the doctors said he wouldn’t be able to sustain the procedure. Over the next couple of days they started my dad on oxygen and he was beginning to require the maximum amount and he still wasn’t able to breathe. They tried a CPAP machine on him as well and my dad still wasn’t able to breathe. They diagnosed him with some type of pneumonia, but they’re not sure what’s causing the pneumonia. On May 9th, 2022 around 10:30 pm they called us to rush over to the hospital because they were thinking of putting my dad on a ventilator. That night they pumped him with medicine and they were able to keep his numbers stable and said the doctor will assess again in the morning. I stayed that night with my dad and his numbers were going up and down all night and he kept gasping for air. The morning of May 10th, 2022 the doctors said my dad wasn’t getting any better and his recommendation was to intubate him so his lungs can have a chance to recover. My dad has currently been on the ventilator for almost 2 weeks now. 2 weeks without being able to talk to him or have any interaction with him. He shows minor improvements in some areas but they’re not sure yet why he was so sick and they’re not sure how long he will be on the vent or if he will even wake up. The doctors say he is still very sick and has been stagnant and that this will be a very long recovery. They say if he wakes up, he might not be able to walk, talk or function at first because of being on the vent for so long there is a lot of side effects from it. My dad will require a lot of therapy. This experience has been very hard for my mom, siblings and I.
My dad is the household sole provider, my mom doesn’t work due to her medical concerns and my dad is in charge of all the bills for the house and taking care of my mom. We are trying to help my mom out the most we can but due to the severity of my dads case right now we don’t know how long my dad will be out of work and on the ventilator. Life, especially bills doesn’t stop just because someone is sick.
We are hoping my dad improves soon and is able to come off the vent so he can start getting therapy to get better and come home, but we have to leave it in God’s hands for what will happen next.
I hate to be the one to ask for help, but my parents are in need at the moment. The funds here will be used for any household expenses we will while my dad is on the ventilator, and any medical costs my dad will have.
We understand times are hard and we don’t expect people to help, but if you do we greatly appreciate you ahead of time for helping us during this hard time. And if you can’t help, please continue to pray for him.
