3ammo (uncle) Nabil Abu Meri has been friends with my uncle for nearly 40 years and has been living in Gaza with his family since he moved back in the 90s.

The decision to leave the place of your birth - the land that raised you - is not an easy one. It was a decision that my own grandfather made for the sake of his family and future generations in 1967. And it is the decision that 3ammo Nabil is forced to make for his family now.

العم نبيل أبو ميري صديق لعمي منذ ما يقرب من 40 عامًا ويعيش في غزة مع عائلته منذ عودته في التسعينيات. إن قرار مغادرة مكان مسقط رأسك - الأرض التي نشأت فيها ليس قرارًا سهلاً. لقد كان هذا قرارًا اتخذه جدي من أجل عائلته والأجيال القادمة في عام 1967. وهو القرار الذي إضطر العم نبيل إلى اتخاذه الآن من أجل عائلته.

3ammo (tonton) Nabil Abu Meri est un ami de longue date de mon oncle, avec qui il entretient une amitié solide depuis près de quatre décennies. Il vit à Gaza avec sa famille depuis qu’il y est retourné, dans les années 90.

La décision de quitter son lieu de naissance – la terre qui nous a vu grandir– n’est pas une décision facile. C’est une décision que mon propre grand-père a prise pour le bien de sa famille et des générations futures en 1967. Et c’est la décision que 3ammo Nabil est désormais obligé de prendre pour sa famille.

The situation in Gaza is a humanitarian catastrophe with no end in sight and the need is urgent, but it costs approximately $25,000 just to evacuate a family of 5 (not including the cost of living and rebuilding their lives post-evacuation). La situation à Gaza est une catastrophe humanitaire sans fin en vue et l’urgence est palpable. Hello,

My name is Nabil and I am an engineer. Me and my family of 5 were all born in the city of Gaza where we currently live. Under the current circumstances and due to the war which has been ongoing for nearly 6 months now, we find ourselves at an extremely difficult point in our lives. We have lost all of our savings and businesses and no longer have any source of income whatsoever.

Dear friends, I am sure that you know very well by now what the situation is in Gaza today and that the current circumstances make it impossible to access the basic necessities of life - food, medical care, clean water, and shelter. We have been displaced multiple times to several different areas within the Gaza Strip due to the war.

For this reason, we turn to you to help us and save us from this difficult ordeal. Your donation, no matter the amount, will be like a lifeline to us amid the shadows of this war. Your support fills our hearts with gratitude for helping us to start a new life.

Bonjour, je suis Nabil Abu Meri, né à Gaza, ingénieur de profession, et père de trois enfants. Actuellement, ma famille et moi-même traversons des épreuves extrêmement difficiles en raison du conflit en cours depuis six mois.

Nous avons perdu toutes nos économies et nos moyens de subsistance, et nous nous retrouvons dans le besoin, manquant cruellement de produits de première nécessité tels que la nourriture, les soins médicaux , l’électricité, l’eau potable et le logement.

Nous avons été déplacés successivement vers plusieurs zones de la bande de Gaza à cause de la guerre. Nous sollicitons votre aide pour surmonter cette épreuve difficile. Votre don, aussi modeste soit-il, est pour nous une lueur d'espoir au milieu des ténèbres de la guerre. Et nos coeurs sont remplis de gratitude pour votre soutien dans nos efforts pour reconstruire nos vies.

To whom it may concern,

I first made my acquaintance with Nabil Abu Meri towards the end of the year 1984, which soon turned into a friendship that has lasted to this day, nearly 40 years later. We worked together on overseeing a project to establish a highway connecting Jordan and Saudi Arabia and continued to work together for 4 years.

After that, we parted ways, but remained in touch until today. I immigrated with my family to Canada (where I continue to live to this day) and Nabil moved from Jordan to Saudi Arabia, where he continued to work at an engineering firm until he left for Gaza in 1997.

إلى من يهمه الأمر

بدأت معرفتي بالأخ نبيل أبو ميري. ثم علاقتي ثم صداقتي التي إستمرت حتى تاريخه/ أي مارس ٢٠٢٤, بدأت في الربع الأخير من سنة ١٩٨٤ حيث عملنا معا في الإشراف على مشروع إنجاز الطريق الدولي رقم ١٥ الواصل ما بين الأردن والسعوديه، ودمنا معا لمدة أربع سنوات، وبعد ذلك هاجرت أنا وعائلتي إلى كندا وما زلت مقيما بها حتى تاريخه.

وغادر هو من الأردن إلى السعوديه وبقينا على تواصل حتى تاريخه

غادر الأخ نبيل إلى السعوديه في العام 1989 وبقي يعمل فيها كمشرف على تنفيذ المشاريع مع مكتب هندسي إستشاري، وغادرها إلى غزه عام 1997.

À qui cela peut concerner,

J'ai fait connaissance avec Nabil Abu Meri fin 1984. Cette relation s'est rapidement transformée en une amitié qui dure encore aujourd'hui, près de 40 ans plus tard. Nous avons travaillé ensemble à la supervision d'un projet visant à établir une autoroute reliant la Jordanie et l'Arabie Saoudite et avons continué à travailler ensemble pendant 4 ans.

Après cela, nous nous sommes séparés, mais sommes restés en contact jusqu'à aujourd'hui. J'ai immigré avec ma famille au Canada (où je vis encore aujourd'hui) et Nabil a quitté la Jordanie pour l'Arabie Saoudite, où il a continué à travailler dans une entreprise d'ingénierie jusqu'à son départ pour Gaza en 1997.

How the funds will get there:

Both myself and my uncle are in direct contact with the father. The funds will first be deposited to my bank account in order to enable us to fundraise in USD and make it easier for donors to support the campaign. As funds are received, I plan to make regular bank transfers to my Uncle Nidal in Canada who will then send the money raised directly to the family in Gaza. My uncle has already been able to transfer some money to the family successfully. We have identified this as the best route to ensure that the funds raised reach the family as quickly as possible so that they can evacuate to safety and begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

كيف ستصل الأموال إلى هناك:

Mon oncle et moi-même sommes en contact direct avec le père. Les fonds seront d'abord déposés sur mon compte bancaire afin de nous permettre de collecter des fonds en USD et de permettre aux donateurs de soutenir plus facilement la campagne. Au fur et à mesure que les fonds seront reçus, je prévois d'effectuer des virements bancaires réguliers à mon oncle Nidal au Canada qui enverra ensuite l'argent récolté directement à la famille à Gaza. Mon oncle a déjà réussi à transférer de l'argent à la famille. Nous avons identifié cela comme le meilleur moyen de garantir que les fonds collectés parviennent à la famille le plus rapidement possible afin qu'elle puisse évacuer vers un lieu sûr et commencer le processus de reconstruction de sa vie.

Who we are:

My name is Farah El-Jayyousi and I am a Palestinian American. I have spent the majority of my life in Missouri, but I currently live in Arizona. As a member of the global Palestinian diaspora, I have been an advocate for the rights of Palestinians and the rights of all refugees for many years. In 2016 I volunteered for a total of about 3 months in both France and Greece as a medical interpreter for Arabic-speaking refugees. My professional background is in crowdfunding and digital marketing, which is why I jumped at the opportunity to help out with this campaign when my uncle floated the idea to me.

My uncle Nidal, now retired and living in Quebec with his family, also has a long history of advocating for Palestinians. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Palestinian Foundation of Quebec. He, along with my father, my other aunts and uncles, and my grandparents, were displaced from our ancestral lands in 1967. In addition to our personal connection to the Abu Meri family, the humanitarian crisis and mass displacement of people in Gaza is a cause near and dear to our hearts.

Je m'appelle Farah El-Jayyousi et je suis Palestinienne-Américaine. J'ai passé la majeure partie de ma vie dans l’état du Missouri, mais je vis actuellement en Arizona. En tant que membre de la diaspora Palestinienne mondiale, je défends les droits des Palestiniens et les droits de tous les réfugiés depuis de nombreuses années. En 2016, j'ai effectué un volontariat d'environ 3 mois en France et en Grèce en tant qu'interprète médical auprès de réfugiés arabophones. Mon oncle Nidal, maintenant à la retraite et vivant au Québec avec sa famille, défend également depuis longtemps les intérêts des Palestiniens. Il siège actuellement au conseil d'administration de la Fondation canadienne palestinienne du Québec. Lui, mon père, mes oncles , tantes ainsi que mes grands-parents ont été déplacés de nos terres ancestrales en 1967. Outre nos liens personnels avec la famille Abu Meri, la crise humanitaire et le déplacement massif de personnes à Gaza sont une cause qui nous tient particulièrement à cœur.
