My name is Kelly Pickett and I’m raising money to support a “special needs” family coping with loss and the bills that go with it!
The Story
Chris and Melissa Allen’s daughter, Katie, is my daughter’s best friend. Both Katie and her mother, Melissa, have special needs like my daughter.
Katie’s mom, Melissa, has been battling stage 4 colon cancer for almost 5 years. Yet she never complained and always had a smile to share!
Last week, Melissa took a turn for the worst and was moved to a hospice facility on Tuesday. She is in a coma and is not expected to live thorough the week. Chris and Katie are devastated! They are a very close family.
The Costs
Chris works to support them all but struggles, due to injuries sustained in car accident years ago, to keep up with the family’s daily needs and the mounting medical bills. Now he has the extra burden of paying for $1,000 per day hospice care now and burial costs soon. Their insurance won’t pay anything until they meet their annual deductible of $5500. Melissa really wants to be buried and the funeral home costs are going to be significant.
