Help The Anti-SLAPP Whistleblower

Brenda Hill Skylstad has been a whistleblower for over thirty-five years. She never goes to bed without posting on whistleblower matters. As a result, whistleblowers are aware of her and what she has done, not only for the taxpayers of Washington State but also for every person in the United States. In 1987, Brenda blew the whistle on a California real estate business operating in Washington State without licensed brokers or real estate agents. She informed the State of Washington, who collected half a million dollars in real estate taxes after Brenda did the original groundwork necessary for collection. Brenda's life has never been the same. Although she saved taxpayers half a million dollars in fees, she was sued by the real estate company for notifying the State of Washington and the company foreclosed on her house.

The owner of the business threatened to ruin her life no matter how long it took, and for six years a black cloud hung over her until a jury found she did not slander the company. Brenda has never received a penny for her victory in the court, nor has she prospered for being the first person in the nation to bring Anti-SLAPP legislation to the fore. The law was named after her and was crafted to protect her and other whistle-blowers from retaliatory lawsuits. Brenda has lived under a gag order brought about by the non-existent real estate company for the last thirty-five years. Brenda is fighting nationwide to end gag orders with no expiration dates.
