Help the Baird Family Through Roger's Cancer Fight
Donation protected
A few weeks ago, the Baird Family received some scary and unexpected news. Charly’s husband Roger was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He had surgery to remove it last week and they received the pathology results today. Charly is an L&D travel nurse in Bethel so if she doesn’t work, she doesn’t get paid. Roger will also be anticipating being off work for an unknown amount of time. This Go Fund Me is to help them both in the event that they are not able to work for a few months and still need to pay their monthly bills as well as care for their three amazing children. Their faith in God is strong! Any amount donated can help and please share! Thank you and God Bless.
The Beginning:
We just got done with Roger’s appointment. He had a CT scan Tuesday. We got the results of the CT scan today. He’s had a variety of issues for give or take 5 weeks. Unfortunately, we just found out he’s got a 4cm mass in his bladder. Most likely cancerous. There is an urgent referral to Dr. Lund’s (urologist) office in place, which will take place by the end of this week or early next week. They will likely perform a cystoscopy and get a biopsy and we’ll have a more accurate result. We are shaken, but trusting Jesus. Please pray. We will not be telling our kids until the results are final. Thank you!
First Update:
AN UPDATE ON ROGER
I know many are wondering about how surgery went today, sorry about the delay, I’ve been a little pre-occupied.
The doctor said the tumor was “huge” - bigger than expected. About 5cm. He was able to remove it all (he thinks) and scrape/cauterize the lining of his bladder. He filled his bladder with chemo and then drained it. Pathology will result in 7-10 days and we’ll know more details then.
He will need another surgery in about a month or so depending on the pathology results.
He’s home & resting with pain meds & lots of love!
Thank you for your prayer, love, and support! We are grateful!
Today’s Update:
Hi friends & family, I know you have been anticipating an update regarding Roger.
He is 1 week post op today and has been living with an annoying indwelling catheter! Hopefully, it can come out on Thursday.
We received pathology results today. Unfortunately, it was the news we were not wanting or expecting. The tumor that was removed is considered a high grade cancer, which means it has invaded the muscle of the bladder. Roger is going to need chemotherapy followed by a partial or radical bladder removal.
Although, we are shaken by this news and we face a lot of unknowns in the near future, we serve a God of miracles! We are continuing to trust & believe God for full & complete healing.
We are continually grateful for your support in every way, thank you isn’t enough!
UPDATE:
Charly:
“We flew to Phoenix to visit the Mayo Clinic for a 2nd opinion and to visit a specialist in bladder cancer. Roger had his appt this morning and we are reassured and at peace with the decision we made to fly here for this purpose. Dr. Mark Tyson, who specializes in bladder cancer and is an expert answered all questions we had and took time to sit and explain everything in detail. He has agreed with the plan of beginning chemotherapy and proceeding with surgery after 4 courses of chemotherapy are completed. Chemotherapy will take place back in Alaska. Roger has a port placement on 11/20 and chemotherapy is set to start on 11/25. His bladder surgery will happen in February or March back in Phoenix, where we will have to remain for a minimum of 1 month. We are continuing to trust God & to take this day by day. We are continually thankful for all of your love and support, thank you!”
