Help the Barber Family Through Medical Crisis - Brain Cancer

My name is Mary Owen and I am raising funds for my brother-in-law, Steve Barber and his family. He was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.

Steve and his wife Melissa have been married for 25 years. They live in Ionia and have three children, Steven, Makenzie, and Carson. Steve has worked for the MDOC for over 20 years in both Ionia and St. Louis. They enjoy camping, traveling, riding motorcycles, sports (U of M and Lions) and anything family-related. They have been mom and dad to so many of the neighborhood kids and have an open door to anyone in need. They are truly a hard-working and loving family.

On July 15th, their lives changed forever when Steve was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The family chose to go to MD Anderson in Texas to get the best medical care available. The tumor was removed and Steve was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.

Most recently, we were told he has a rare complication of Glioblastoma called Leptomengial spread.It’s very rare to occur in a primary brain tumor but that’s been the norm to hear lately. The original tumor is already growing back and has spread to numerous other parts of the brain now. They will be testing to see if it’s also already spread to the spinal column. There is one tumor that is in a an area that is hard to treat and cannot be surgically removed because it’s on a ventricular in his vision center

He started chemo and radiation today. This will require driving to Ann Arbor five days a week.

We strongly believe in the power of prayer and miracles, so please pray for this wonderful family. Unfortunately, this could happen to any one of us at any time.
