Help the Batta Family Rebuild
As many of you know, the Batta family lost their home to a flood following last Saturday’s storms. The flood waters came up quickly and the family had to rush to get the kids and pets to higher ground. By the time they made it out the front door, the water was waist deep for Elijah.
Family, friends and the fire department were on the scene quickly after the water receded to help pump water out. But it’s still unclear if their home is salvageable and most of its contents are a total loss. The flood waters that came through were black water which means that anything touched is ruined because it’s basically sewage. Levi and Katie have spent the week working with restoration companies, environmental companies, the township, and so many more people – but have hit nothing but roadblocks with their insurance company. As they push for help from the insurance company, their stuff sits in the black water so anything that may have been salvageable at the beginning, may not be by the end. At this time, we’re still unsure if and what will be covered under their policy. They are taking it day by day but are overwhelmed, sad and exhausted.
I truly cannot imagine how terrifying this was for Levi, Katie and Elijah who were all home at the time, or for Michael and Cheyenne who, while fortunately not home, have also been traumatized by the sight of their home and the loss of their things. But I can tell you, the aftermath of “what ifs” are agonizing to all of us. We are grateful everyone is safe and appreciate all the love, support and offers for help that have come from all of you.
If you know Levi and Katie, you know they’re not the people that ask for help. (In fact, we’ve had to force tiny bits of help on them this week). But, it will likely be impossible for them to get back on their feet without some assistance. At this time, if you are inclined to offer support, the family could use monetary donations and household items. Katie and the kids are staying with family and Levi is camped out with their pups by the house. Our hope is that they can be reunited as a family and with their pets and to find a new place to live permanently so that they can begin to rebuild their lives and regain some normalcy for their kids.
Thank you to all who have called, texted, offered help, sent food, and sent love. Your support is everything.
