When I say my heart breaks I’m selling you short.
Shattered. That’s more of the word to describe my emotions.
For those of you that don’t know, I’d like to share our dear friend’s story.
Imagine being a young couple starting your family. You fight and fight to have your first child. She arrives and has a few challenges but nothing you weren’t prepared for. A short time later, you find out baby number two is on the way. Little brother arrives and has some issues with his kidneys. Again, you can deal with this. You have a daughter and a son; life is great.
Until it’s not.
Your daughter is diagnosed with medulloblastoma. She has to have surgery ASAP which means your new baby (under three months old) is left with family so you can focus on your daughter’s health. A second surgery followed quickly and blindsided you, but your daughter is a trooper. She’s so strong; you get TWO weeks at home for family time before your precious baby girl starts chemo.
Two weeks. Two short weeks. Fourteen days. You were just in the hospital away from your baby and now you have to leave him again. Your little girl is going to go through six months of chemo. Six. Long. Months.
No one knows what the future holds, but the only thing you can do is stay strong for your little girl. Your pride and joy. It’s at this time that you forget you’re a human and you have needs. You HAVE to focus on your little lady. You take a back burner. Your daughter needs you to be strong.
Round one of chemo was rough on your little princess but at the end of round one, you get a few days home with your family. Round two starts and it’s incredibly hard.
Imagining this life is tough to do; imagine living it.
Unfortunately for Katie and Warren, they don’t get to just stop imagining. They can’t just step out of the nightmare. This is their life. They are living this nightmare.
That’s where we come in. We pray; we send positive thoughts. We send support in EVERY way that we can: cards to baby Kenzley, toys to keep her busy in the hospital, care packages for mom and dad, etc. The simple things so mom and dad can focus on Kenzley.
I’m coming to you as a mom, wife, friend, coworker. If this were your life, what would you need more than anything? Support. Support seriously makes a difference. If everyone who reads this donates, even just $1, we can help take some of the weight from this family. One dollar may not seem like much but if we rally together, one dollar can be life changing.
I hope that you’ll consider supporting Kenzley in any way possible as we all do, whatever we can, to help her, and her family, during this very difficult time.
