Help the Bergs Start a Family with Adoption

I have always been a nurturing person, and I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a mother – to have a child or two that I could raise, cherish, and love as only a mother can.  Chris and I began trying to have a child a few years ago now, but our journey has resulted in frustration, lost hope, and ultimately heartache.  We have suffered through multiple miscarriages and, after seeking the help of a specialist, I was diagnosed with a bicornate uterus.  This condition affects 0.1-0.5% of women in the U.S., but my case is particularly severe.  In layman’s terms, my uterus is split in two and neither has the capacity to grow to the size needed to carry a child to full term.  The doctor stated that I have less than a 30% chance of ever doing so, and that even should it eventually happen, we could risk the devastating impact of additional pregnancy losses.

 After careful consideration, Chris and I have decided to pursue the option of adoption. If we cannot have our own, we would consider ourselves blessed to be able to offer a loving home to a precious baby in need of one.  Unfortunately, this is a great undertaking, both stressful and expensive.  Research has shown that an inclusive adoption process (completing a Home Study, joining an Adoption Agency, finding a birth-mother match, and ultimately bringing home a beautiful bundle of joy) would cost an average of $40,000.  We wish more than anything else to be able to do this by ourselves, but have recognized the need to put pride aside and put our faith in our community of family and friends (and maybe even generous strangers), because we simply do not have the means.
