Help The Bloomfield's Fight Leukaemia
Donation protected
In September 2021, Belinda and Matt had just moved into their new house they purchased for their family. After years of renting they were so excited to finally have some stability.
Two weeks after moving in Matt started getting lots of bruises and became more tired than usual, it was mainly put down to moving house and having two very active young boys (Jack, 5 & Ollie, 3). He then started getting short of breath at work which led him to go to the doctors for a check up.
The doctor ordered blood tests and when the results came in Matt was instructed to go straight to Emergency at GCUH. Shockingly after a few more tests including a bone marrow biopsy Matt was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, a type of leukaemia that is usually found in children or the elderly.
Matt began a complex treatment plan straight away.
The next 5 weeks in hospital saw many blood tests and transfusions, chemo, lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies, steroids, anti nausea medication...the list goes on.
Visiting daddy in his 'bedroom' at the hospital became the new normal for Jack and Ollie, and having to FaceTime to say goodnight became heartbreaking for everyone.
During this time Belinda had to stop her casual job at Woolworths as she did this when Matt was home to watch the boys. she also has had to reduce her hours at her other job to care for the boys, run a household and take Matt to and from the hospital for his chemo treatment.
The next step for treatment will be 2 more years of chemo or a bone marrow transplant. Belinda will not be able to work at all if the transplant goes ahead (which it is very likely it will) as Matt will need a full time carer in Brisbane for 4 months. While they are hoping the Leukaemia foundation will provide accommodation near the hospital, this is not guaranteed, which means they will need to pay for accommodation.
I would like to RAISE some funds to help ease the stress from a financial point of view. All funds will go towards the mortgage, daycare, bills, food, petrol, hospital parking, being able to do fun things with the boys etc etc.
They moved to the Gold Coast from Melbourne 3 years ago. While they have made some incredibly supportive friends in Qld and thankfully have Belindas parents living close by, Matts family and some of their best friends are all still in Melbourne making this journey that little bit harder.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated by Matt and Belinda. Thank you so much for supporting them during this incredibly challenging time, it means world to them.
