Gabby’s Girl Scouts Gold Award: Helping Bluebirds

Donation protected
For my Girl Scouts Gold Award, I’m raising money to help the Eastern Bluebird population. Aggressive house sparrows and other “introduced” birds are a threat to their existence. They need our help for survival.

As a Girl Scout (and future veterinarian), it’s important to me to help animals, the environment, and make a difference in my community. I recently hung a couple of bluebird houses in my backyard. I enjoyed watching them and began thinking how I could assist these beautiful creatures.

Eastern Bluebirds are important to our ecosystem and wellbeing, as they help with pest control (unwanted insects), assist in pollinating flowers, their songs are a joy to hear, and are very spectacular to look at.

I will use funding to purchase 25-30 bluebird houses. The houses will get hung around my community (including at the library, public parks, and in neighborhoods). I will also provide educational posters about wild birds and a set of binoculars (at the park), so families can enjoy birdwatching, identification, and become more educated for bird conservation, and their importance of their role in our ecosystem.

Please consider helping me meet my goal of $800 and earn my Girl Scout Gold Award. Any remaining funds will be donated to the local Audubon Society. I would be so grateful to fulfill my goal.
