Help The Bonney Family After House Fire
Donation protected
My name is David Bonney, I live in Christiansburg, VA with my wife, Kirstin, and our youngest daughter, Willow, who is 17. I am an Army Veteran, and a former emergency responder. Both Kirstin and I work full time in Christiansburg. Today, I became homeless because of a fire that started in the dryer of my house.
I was notified by my daughter that our house was on fire. I had just gotten to work and raced home using my supervisor’s car. When I arrived at the house Christiansburg Fire Department, Animal Control, and EMS were on scene. Thankfully, no humans were home, but our 7 pets remained unaccounted for. Freja, our family dog, was gone having fled through the door opened by the fire department and we could not find our cats. I entered the house looking for our animals to find one—Rusty but no others. By the time the fire department, animal control, and EMS left, I was notified by the fire department that the house was no longer a livable residence. My wife, my 17-year-old daughter, and my pets have become homeless.
As of 6PM on May 26, 2023, we have accounted for all 6 cats, but our dog has not yet been found. The cats are currently at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter for 24 hours (until May 27, 2023 at 4PM). We are grateful for their help as we figure out the long-term ramifications of this family crisis. We know that we will need to find another place to live and in the mean time need to find a safe place for the cats, Freja, once she is found, and to replace some of our lost belongings. The goal of this go-fund-me is an estimate. In reality, we do not know what this process is going to look like, but as our friends, family, and community members ask us “What can we do?” the reality is: we need funds in order to move forward from this terrible event.
