Hurricane Ian relief fund for the Broadwaters
Donation protected
Hello everyone. My name is Tommy Kazias and I live in Akron, OH with my wife and daughter. I’m trying to help our best friends, Meagan and Dean, their 3 kids and Golden Retriever Charlie get back on track after they lost their home and belongings because of Hurricane Ian.
The assessments so far are listing their home as having major structural damage, and it appears that it will have to be tore down. All of the windows were blown out and the garage doors are gone. The roof was damaged very badly and large parts of it are completely missing. The storm surge came up over 15 feet and the entire ground floor was completely submerged in water.
They are currently in their RV at an RV park in Miami and are trying desperately to find a long term park closer to home.
The money raised will help the Broadwaters with food and basic expenses until they get back on track and pick up the pieces. Thank you so much for taking time to read this. Anything will help, even if all you can do is share this and keep the Broadwater family in your thoughts and prayers.
Update from Meagan: Day 5 update: A friend told me our house was on the news and sent me the link.. got 10 minutes in and said I didn’t see it. The first part was our neighborhood and 4 minutes in was our house. We didn’t even recognize either one. The news people just said omg look at that home There is significant damage. All the windows were blown out. The garage doors are gone. The roof is destroyed and from what I can see some of the roof completely gone. Obviously significant flooding as the back yard I already knew is still several feet of deep of water. We have a bottom floor to the house so I’m sure it’s still flooded. I’m also sure mold has started as I’ve seen other peoples homes in fort Myers with mold yesterday online. We have wood floors all through out the house and the entire house is wooden. We are going to assume it’s a complete loss and will need to be torn down. Especially as the days go by of it just sitting there and no way for us to try and save it since we can’t get on the island and it could be weeks until they allow us to do so. We filled the interior bathroom up with all of our old computers that had every picture we own on them. Many other things we threw in there that we couldn’t take with us at that time that is not replaceable.. I try to remind myself that I’m not the only one going through those emotions. Thank you for the continued prayers and kind messages we have received and the support. We aren’t sure exactly what to do next, but the sun will still rise tomorrow and we are alive and need to be grateful and blessed for that. For those of you asking how you can help us, we have a go fund me that a friend started for us. We do not have any income coming in and living in our camper. We would be grateful if you could just share it to anyone you know.
