Hello, my name is Omhunique (Browne) Jackson.

My family and I are reaching out during an incredibly difficult time. Recently, we lost our beloved home to the devastating Eaton Canyon fire, which tore through Altadena, CA, leaving countless families displaced. For us, this home on Sacramento Street wasn’t just a house—it was a place filled with decades of memories and love.

After 42 years of marriage and 31 years in this home, my parents, who moved here from the Caribbean back in 1979, built their lives in this house. It’s the only place they’ve ever truly known in this country, and to lose it so suddenly has left them heartbroken and without a place to go. The thought that their grandchildren will never get to create the same beautiful memories we were fortunate to have here is devastating for all of us.

This home wasn’t just a safe haven for our family—it was a safe place for so many in the neighborhood. Growing up, it was the house where kids could come and feel secure. My siblings and I, along with our friends, would spend hours together here, building friendships and creating memories before anything else. It was more than a home; it was a cornerstone of our community.

To make matters even more heartbreaking, my parents’ home insurance was canceled shortly before this tragic incident, leaving them with no safety net to rebuild.
