Hi! We're John Paul Oricchio and Ricky Byrdsong Jr., directors of the documentary "BYRDSONG" coming in fall 2024. We need to raise $65,000 to complete post-production this summer.
On July 2, 1999, Coach Ricky Byrdsong was assassinated by a white supremacist in front of his two youngest children, Kelley and Ricky Jr. Now, over 25 years later, his son Ricky Jr. is looking to reconnect with his father via the people who knew him best as he moves on to a new chapter in his life. Through this project, viewers will see Ricky Jr. walk in his father's shoes, and find new ways to apply his father’s blueprint for success to his own lifestyle.
The story of Ricky Byrdsong will show how his family and community were able to turn tragedy into triumph by combatting hate with love, which we hope will inspire our audience to take similar action to effect change in their communities. The film will raise awareness about gun violence and hate crimes, as well as consider the systemic socio-political issues of America, all while taking the viewer on a basketball fueled journey through the healing of trauma.
John and Ricky started production on this grass roots indie film with their small team in 2017, and will complete production on Father's Day 2024.
Although we've finished shooting and editing the documentary, we need additional funds to cover post-production expenses, like sound, color correction and music composition. These elements are crucial to bringing the Byrdsong film to life, and insures that our project will reach its full potential.
