Help the Cates Children after Mother's Passing

Our dear friend, Chris Cates, lost their mother unexpectedly this Tuesday, August 3rd. Chris is a senior and valued community member at Wake Forest University and in the larger Winston-Salem community. Chris' friends have come together during this difficult time to support them and their family, namely Chris and their younger brother, as they navigate the loss of their mother.

Courtney Cates, 38, was a beautiful soul and an incredible single mom. She had a contagious smile and a strength that radiated to all those around her. Courtney was a unique spirit and wasn't afraid to show the world who she was through her vibrant hair, spirituality and passion for standing up for what's right. She loved her family so much, especially her two children, and she is already dearly missed. Her family has described her as a light in this world. Courtney is survived by her mother, Ava (age 66) and her two children, Chris (age 20), and Kallyn (age 9).

A GoFundMe has been established on the behalf of the Cates family in this trying time as they attempt to hold a funeral and cover lawyer's expenses and legal feels to allow for a smooth transition of custody for Courtney's youngest son, Kallyn, to his grandmother.
