Since 2006, the Charlotte Re-Cyclery (a community bike shop program of Trips for Kids Charlotte) has served the community from its current location at 516 E. 15th Street in Charlotte, NC. Here, we've reclaimed THOUSANDS of donated and discarded bicycles and refurbished them to support the community as safe and reliable options for recreation and transportation as well as tools for education. Within the confines of our current space we've held hundreds of bike mechanic classes, open shop nights, flat repair clinics (and so much more!), because we believe cycling is a transformative practice. While this space has served us well, the past few years have shown that we have officially outgrown our original home.

As we look to the future and how we can best continue serving our Charlotte neighbors through bike education, maintenance, and experiences, it is clear that we need room to grow. We have ambitious hopes, plans and visions for expanding the programs and the educational opportunities we offer to the community (the majority of them are completely free!), but we need your support to make it happen!

The Charlotte Re-Cyclery currently has an incredible opportunity to expand in all of the ways we've been dreaming of in the form of a stand alone building. Throughout our 22 years of supporting cycling for ALL communities of Charlotte through service, accessibility and education, we have made it a point to make our impact while being self-sustaining.

To make the next level we need a boost to help us refurbish our new-to us building and realize our dream of becoming a hub for cycling education, bicycle access and mechanical support for ALL in Charlotte. More information about Trips for Kids Charlotte: Trips for Kids Charlotte (TFKC) provides transformative cycling experiences for under-resourced and underrepresented youth. We do this through our mountain biking Ride Program, our after-school Earn-A-Bike Program and the Charlotte Re-Cyclery (used bike shop whose income helps us continue to grow and serve more kids). We strive to prepare children for success by teaching respect, honesty, teamwork, overcoming challenges, healthy and safe lifestyles and service. We believe the bicycle is a tool...for recreation, transportation, wellness, and social change. We also believe that EVERYONE deserves access to this tool.
