Last week, Hurricane Helene unleashed its fury on my hometown Tampa Bay, leaving destruction in its wake. Among those hit were my sister, Nicole Chin, her husband Chris, and their daughter Colbie, who live in Apollo Beach. Their beloved home—a place where family and friends have gathered for countless memories—was flooded with nearly two feet of water during the storm surge. What was once a home full of laughter has been turned upside down, rendered unlivable in a matter of hours.

While we’re so grateful they evacuated in time and are safe, the emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming. The Chin family faces an uphill battle, trying to rebuild their home from the devastation, and the road ahead is long. Immediate costs are piling up—costs they didn’t anticipate, but now must face to make their home livable once again.
