Injured Combat Vet battles to save his home

Donation protected

Christopher, is a purple heart veteran who hit three IEDs during his deployment, the last one resulting in traumatic brain injury among other injuries because he put his life on the line to serve his country.   He was stationed in one of the worst parts of Iraq, but he never gave up on his mission, or his home - the United States of America.
But when he returned, his heart and brain forever altered, he did his very best to create a new life and home for himself and his wife years later.
This time, the IED came in the form of a corrupt contractor who stole the family's money, trust and dreams.

The situation:
The Cormican’s need to protect the home shell and make it rustically livable as soon as possible after their builder abandoned the job with their life savings in July. We are trying to rally around them to raise funds for building materials and labor. A contractor come forward in January wanting to help, offering to be the general contractor free of charge to dry-in the home but materials and funding for materials including some lumbar as the builders walked prior to framing completion are needed. If they are unable to do this, they will need to forego their dream, home, and attempt to sell the home, most likely at a loss.

Call to action:
The Cormican's are in dire need of closing up this structure of a home to protect what they currently have. The family is in desperate need of funds to close the structure as the elements take hold. After the home is closed up, they will focus on trying to save up to complete electrical, and HVAC. They received initial estimates of around $40K to bring in power or set a sustainable power source,$15K for AC units, $8K for drywall, over $20K for insulation, and have more estimates out to make this a home for their family.

Background:
In December, Chris and his family set off to build a home in Northeast Texas using their life savings to fund this dream. Chris, who served in Army from 2004 – 2012 and suffered multiple injuries during his deployment found refuge in this property and when the Lord spoke to his heart, he decided to make the move.

A contract was signed with a local builder and work was set to begin in late December. The Cormican's noticed deadlines being missed early on but were reassured that the home would progress, and time made up. The foundation was finally put down in April and shortly after, the Cormican’s were told that due to inflation the builders would need a large lump sum of the payment in advance so the builders could pre-purchase all the materials and store them in a rented warehouse to protect them from price increases if not, they wouldn't be able to continue with the build. The Cormican's hesitantly agreed needing the home built and trusting this company. In May the framing began, but again they were being asked for more money when the house wasn’t even done being framed to keep the house moving forward. After another payment was made communications started going silent, sometimes days on end. The framing slowly stopped and the Cormican’s were told that the master carpenter on the job was being reassigned as all their money is currently out there. The Cormican’s confirmed with the builders that there was no warehouse, no stored materials, and the building stopped, leading them to require legal consul.

Their home has been left abandoned, all builder signs removed, generators removed, no workers working and the Cormican’s have been left with the harsh reality that they just lost their life savings and have a shell of a home for their three children. The Cormican's kids started school in August so the family will have to drive four hours per day between there and back, which aggravates Chris's combat injuries. The rental contract expired in May leaving them looking for a miracle to get this house closed up.
