Help the Dave Long Family

UPDATE November 30, 2023
After some minor setbacks, we are back at Poudre Valley Health for a couple of days. The good news is, we voluntarily drove ourselves down this time (at the recommendation of the Steamboat doctors) without any helicopter rides or ambulance visits. The better news is that there are no life threatening complications. Dave just has a low grade fever and some of his labs are showing some low levels of specific minerals and nutrients. Out of an abundance of caution, the doctors are keeping him until Saturday for observation.

He is less than impressed, but we are happy to have him in the best care. His kidney labs are looking so good that we might get his dialysis port removed before we come home!

Please pray along with us for restored health and travel mercies.

UPDATE November 28,2023
Dave is home and resting. He does have to be taken to Avon, CO, 3 times weekly for kidney dialysis. His kidneys have shown improvement but still requiring dialysis.
The family is so grateful for the donations; however, there are still expenses for travel and medical.
Thank you all for what you have done!

UPDATE 11/21/23: Good News! Once they have finalized outpatient kidney dialysis for Dave in Avon, they expect him to go home!
Lots of expenses still ahead with roughly 3 trips per week for dialysis until the kidneys start functioning.
Thanks so much!

UPDATE Sunday, Nov 19, 2023
We spoke to Dave on the phone Thursday. It was great hearing him and his spirits were good! He and Kami expressed their gratitude to everybody.
He is now out of ICU because his heart is not in Afib any longer. He continues to be treated and continues to be on kidney dialysis. He told us the drs anticipate he will still be on dialysis 3 times a week when he goes home but are confident the kidneys will eventually heal. It’s just going to be a lengthy recovery.

The following was copied today from the Facebook page “Prayers for Dave”:
”Not much changed today, 11/20/23, for dad. He had another round of dialysis and lots of rest. He was able to take a shower which was great! He is taking baby steps in the right direction towards compete healing.

Thank you so much for every whispered prayer you've sent up.”

UPDATE Wednesday, November 15, 2023
Dave is still in ICU today. He continues to receive kidney dialysis during the day, his heart rate remained up some today, but other areas have shown improvement. He is still being treated for the infections.

Saturday, November 11, 2023, at approximately 3am, Dave Long was taken to UC Health Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. Dave had been suffering from COVID-19 and developed bilateral pneumonia as well as sepsis. That afternoon, after stabilizing Dave enough to transport, he was flown to UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft Collins, CO, where a Critical Care Team could treat him. He remains in the ICU in critical but stable condition. Dave experienced kidney failure, as well as other serious medical conditions as a result of his illness.

Dave’s wife Kami along with other members of the family have traveled to Ft. Collins to be with Dave the few hours a day they are allowed.

This Go Fund Me has been set up to provide some financial support for medical expenses, travel, lodging, meals as well as any expenses experienced during what is possibly going to be a long recovery. Please be assured that your donations will be transferred directly into Dave and Kami’s account at Mountain Valley Bank. Prayers are requested too. The power of prayer has already been evident in Dave’s recovery.

We will provide updates here as available.

Karen (Tait) Tackett worked with Dave at Twentymile Coal for years. She currently lives in Henderson, KY, with her husband Michael and they have remained good friends with the Long family. She felt the need to help the family in this dire time and knew there were many people who felt the same way, thus this Go Fund Me was established.

Thank you,
Karen
