Help the DeShazo Family Rebuild After Fire

My name is April DeShazo. I am starting this fundraiser to help my family get back on our feet after a fire has displaced us. We still aren't sure what caused the fire, it's possible it was a phone charger. This has uprooted myself, my husband, our 9-year-old son, our 13-year-old daughter, our two cats, and our new puppy. We are not native to Colorado, having moved here 3 years ago from Alabama.

The fire started in my daughter's bedroom in the back of the apartment, on Friday, August 23, 2024, between 4-5 PM. The fire department responded fast enough to get it put out and no harm came to any of the other 20+ residents in our apartment building. My 9-year-old was at the neighbors and went home to grab something, saw and smelled smoke, immediately called 911, and rescued our pets.

We live paycheck to paycheck currently and have been trying to work towards buying a house but with this setback now we have hardly anything left. We have been advised to get rid of everything that cannot be physically wiped down, so that means all of our clothing, blankets, towels, the kids' stuffed animals, our animals' blankets, it's just so much. My husband and I had sentimental things from long gone loved ones we will never be able to replace but we are so thankful to be alive.
