Help Support the Edwards Through This Hard Time

Please Support Sean, Amanda and Wally Edwards...

We are looking to raise funds to support the family while they are out of jobs, recovering from Seans hospitalization from Covid. Please donate if you are able, all funds go to Sean and Amanda.

This story is meant to bring you through his experience to help understand the long road to recovery that is ahead and is not meant to dramatize the events that the family went through.

Sean experienced severe symptoms from the COVID-19 virus early in October and was admitted to the Stettler hospital on October 12th due to shortness of breath and difficulties breathing. After developing pnemonia, Seans oxygen levels continued dropping even after being placed on oxygen, and subsequently Sean was transferred to the Red Deer hospital to be isolated and for more advanced treatments.

Under oxygen, Sean continued to have difficulties and was intubated on October 17th and placed on a ventilator to give his body a chance to rest and to help his lungs heal from the infection. For 13 days Sean remained under sedation and ventilators as doctors worked around the clock to combat infections and allow his body to heal enough to take over again. Doctors predictions were grim with the lung specialists giving Sean a 50/50 likelihood of survival with the numbers leading not in his favour. He was in critical condition. In addition to the respiratory infections, Sean developed another infection in the hospital called citrobacter which affects the colon and together with the other infections in his body, Sean developed sepsis, where the body begins attacking its own systems and his fever spiked to 104F. The team of over 5 specialists worked to develop a plan and met often to update treatments. Sean was treated with a 4th wave of antibiotics to battle the many infections that were brought on after the onset of Covid.

We were all in shock and thought the worst. Sean’s fever finally broke on October 28 and they brought him out of sedation slowly over the next few days, testing his body functions and getting his systems to work independently again. On October 30 the ICU needed to see if he could breathe on his own before they tried to remove the ventilator. It was successful.

October 31 Sean was removed off the ventilator and was able to breath on his own. Praise God. Post ventilator Sean was in recovery dealing with the wrath of covid side effects and the ventilator for 13 nights as well as so many medications he was given. Sean came home on November 5, 2021.

Survivors that eventually come off ventilation face a long, slow and traumatic period of recuperation from the virus and its treatment. Sean’s recovery has also involved periods of confusion, panic, shaking, impaired thinking, hallucinations, anxiety and depression, The exact pattern of recovery in COVID-19 is still emerging, and is different for different people. The effects of the virus have left him unable to perform daily tasks and he is currently walking with a walker and is working his way back to independence again. It's clear that health impacts for those who have been on a ventilator can last weeks, months or even years.

Sean is in the beginning stages to face this road of recovery with the thoughts & prayers of many friends his family and Prayer Warriors. Unfortunately there is more to covid than physical recovery. Sean and Amanda are now both unable to work for a period of time unknown but it is expected that they will be off work until sometime after January. Sean must have someone with him always until he gains enough strength to be alone.

We are looking to provide some comfort, assistance and support to their family. We are hoping that by generating some funds, Sean and Amanda will be able to pay rent, utilities, groceries, household items, gas and any other essentials. With Christmas on the way perhaps even some toys for Wally under the Christmas Tree. Please give what you can to help them pull through this difficult time and support them until they can get back on their feet. May God bless each and everyone of you.

Isaiah 58:10-11 “Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.“
