Help The Family Of Emilia Arteaga
Donation protected
I am fundraising to pay for the cost of a funeral for my mother, Emilia Arteaga. After a long and painful struggle, she recently died, waiting for an organ transplant. As it goes, one does not qualify for a transplant until their condition is bad enough, but as her condition worsened, she was also at the risk of being in too poor of health to survive a transplant, meaning she would be taken off the list. We tried to never lose hope, but unfortunately, her petite size didn't help her cause. Four times we received the call that an organ was available. We made the long trip to Chicago, but each time, right before the surgery was to start, the doctors decided the organ was not of good enough quality. After the third call, she never came home as her condition was so poor she had to remain hospitalized to keep her in stable condition. Eventually, she was taken off the list, and we knew she only had a matter of time left with us. She was in the hospital on Christmas and still on New Year's Eve. Only I was there by her side. At a few different points, her health declined so much that she ended up in the ICU, but each time she fought through it. The last few weeks are very hard to describe, but she contracted Covid-19, was put in the ICU again, and was intubated. With her amazing fighting spirit, she pulled through so she could allow her family the gift of saying goodbye to her. Until her very last day, she gave everything she had for the comfort of her family. My mom finally rested in peace in the early morning of January 25th. Now, I would like to honor her final wish, by giving her a funeral. It took everything I had for the last year to support her, get her treatments in hopes of a transplant, and staying by her side while her health rapidly declined in a hospital four hours from home. I will now try and do what I can so the family can come together and see her one last time in the church where she spent every Sunday until her health prevented her from easily leaving the house. Her prayers were never for herself, but for the wellbeing of her children and grandchildren. She always looked the happiest flipping tortillas and offering food to anyone who entered her home. I thank you for your time and consideration. Any help would be appreciated and never forgotten. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, and God bless.
