The story of Bruce McConville made global headlines in 2020. Remember the man who burned 1M dollars to prevent paying his ex-wife for child and spousal support and equalization? The family is barely getting by and now faces homelessness. "The ends of justice are being toyed with by Bruce McConville" stated Superior Justice Kevin Phillips, at the expense of a mother and her two children.

So what happened?

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bruce McConville stopped paying all court ordered expenses to support his financially dependent family. As a mother of a severely disabled child and a pre-teen, Mrs. McConville was a stay at home mom with little earning potential.

Over the last year, McConville has done jail-time for failure to comply with court orders. Now, he claims that he cannot pay the equalization or child support that is owed to his family. These payments are meant to keep the children housed.

Mrs. McConville and children are now facing the loss of their home as the bank is well on its way to reclaiming the house that the children have known since birth. The family is in crisis with no resources available to assist them.

Systems are in place to protect the vulnerable, but not without significant legal fees. Right now, Mrs. McConville is trying to make ends meet in hopes that the family will be able to wait for the Canadian legal system to correct the situation. In light of the current pandemic, this has become an increasingly impossible waiting game.

So, what needs to happen?

First and foremost, Mrs. McConville and her 2 children need help. Any donations will immediately be put toward keeping a roof over the three girls' heads. With any luck, this will help facilitate overdue healing and safety.

Civil Court action is a costly process that Mrs. McConville cannot afford. She requires emergency funding to keep the children in their home and to fund a lengthy legal process.

Please share this in hope that the story will circulate the globe like the news of the disappearance of a million dollars.  While previous headlines may have incited humour, there is nothing light-hearted about imposing such distress on a family.

Why is this important?

As a close friend of the family, I've witnessed the hurt caused by Mr. McConville's actions. In a pandemic where many are focused on the day-to-day, a million dollars was destroyed to inflict pain and facilitate helplessness. My heart goes out to all the parents that have ever found themselves in similar situations.

Despite the events of the last year, Mrs. McConville remains cautiously optimistic. She believes in her faith and community, and is grateful for all those that have stepped up thus far to assist the family. One day, she hopes she will be in a position to help others unable to fund legal battles and offer support and community.

Please consider showing your support by donating to Mrs. McConville and her children. This cause is not solely about one family but about sending a message that manipulation of the justice system will not be tolerated at the expense of the vulnerable.

Immediate help will be directed to legal expenses and arrangements with the bank to stop the family's home from being taken.

Please, if you are as horrified by these proceedings as I am, offer a donation to help Mrs. McConville and her two children.
