Mortgage Help for Rebuilding the Guarino-Hotz Home
Donation protected
My name is Melissa, and I'm reaching out on behalf of my parents, Bettyann Guarino and Hank Hotz, who lost everything in the devastating LA fires in Altadena. They were forced to flee their home in the middle of the night with little notice. They lost a historic home in Jane’s Village. Their whole community is gone. My mother's artwork, creative writing, beloved antiques/family heirlooms, and rare rose collection all lost. My father’s treasured science fiction library and extensive tools are gone. Countless irreplaceable photos of loved ones and family records have all been reduced to ashes. The insurance company is cooperating so far, but my parents are now paying off the mortgage on a house that doesn't exist anymore. This will significantly reduce the payout available to rebuild or replace the home. Additionally, my father has been losing income since he can’t work while sorting out this mess. They need help with the mortgage. My parents have paid off the bulk of it, but they still have $300,000+ left. They are too close to retirement age and can’t pay off an even larger mortgage if it’s needed to refinance a rebuild or buy another home. Mortgage forbearance is only a short-term band-aid and doesn’t address any of these issues in an area where competition was fierce before the fire for both contractors and/or new homes. Any donation, no matter how small, will significantly help my parents recover. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read this and for any aid you can provide. Donate what you can and please share our story.
