Help Those Effected by Labour Exploitation

Donation protected
The Abolish Foundation (TAF) helps vulnerable workers exploited in the textile and fashion industry, a problem that is increasing with recent trends for fast fashion. While the idea is straightforward, achieving this goal is ambitious. Through focused partnerships, the Abolish Foundation provides relief, rehabilitation, and education to those directly affected. The Abolish Foundation has been actively working on educating the public and raising awareness.

Why We Need Your Help

Every day, countless individuals are forced to work in unsafe conditions, exploited to produce cheap textiles that flood the fashion industry. When accidents occur, these workers are often discarded without any support or care. The Healing Project aims to step in and provide these survivors with medical assessment, prosthetic limbs, and counselling.

Your donations will directly help us with several initiatives.

  • Provide prosthetics and support to more survivors of industrial accidents.
  • Support local efforts in India to prevent further abuse and exploitation of workers.
  • Empower girls from Afghanistan through education.
  • Educate individuals and the upcoming generations about the darkness of fast fashion and modern slavery through our “Price of Cheap” University Tour.

The Healing Project

The Healing Project (THP) is a program created by The Abolish Foundation that helps people in India who have lost limbs while working in dangerous jobs. Over the past five years, THP has supported a small group of amputees. One story is about a boy named Ajay, who lost his arm at 14 while working in an unsafe cotton mill. TAF partnered with Dr. Pooja Mukul at the Jaipur Foot Rehabilitation Center and Sudhir Katiyar at the Center for Labour Research and Action (CLRA) to help Ajay.

By helping others with similar stories, like Anil, who lost his arm in a factory accident at age 12, The Healing Project and the CLRA continue to support front-line workers in providing prosthetics and other support to amputees in India.

If you would like to hear more about Ajay’s story, and how a young boy has been able to overcome such a tragedy, we have teamed up with Ajay himself to provide a short yet powerful story below.

Educating Children from Afghanistan

In 2020, we teamed up with the Union of Assistance for Schools in Afghanistan (VUSAF) to provide and support the Ferdawsi camp in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, where many displaced refugees live in makeshift tents and face extreme poverty.

Along with providing and distributing food and blankets throughout the camp, elementary schools were created for youth. Girls in particular have had many challenges receiving an education in these areas. Please take a moment to listen to Qadira’s story below.

Unfortunately, with the rapid increase in the demand for these schools and resources, funding is needed to continue to provide children with an opportunity to learn and grow.

University Tour: The Price of Cheap

The Price of Cheap tells the stories of modern slaves hidden in fashion supply chains, with a focus on southern India. It follows activists on raids to rescue children from unsafe factories and the survivors trying to rebuild their lives. The story takes an unexpected turn and raises questions about the legacy we’re leaving behind.

The university tour screening of The Price of Cheap to North American audiences will bring attention to the fast fashion industry and expose the suffering that results from the push for cheaper and cheaper clothes. The film inspires people to be more conscientious about their consumer choices and increases awareness of important issues in global supply chains.

It was through this documentary that we were introduced to Ajay and his reality, fueling our passion and commitment to change.
