Help the Hoglund Family

Our dear friends Pat and Don Hoglund, and their incredible family, have been through multiple challenges in the last year. Below is a summary of their story.

 

Pat and Don Hoglund are longtime residents of Burr Ridge, IL. Pat was a hairstylist before dedicating many years to working as a bakery manager at Jewel until her recent retirement in 2019. Don also recently retired from his home construction business, and the couple was looking forward to finally getting to enjoy time with each other, their three grown kids, and their grandchildren. Plans can change in a blink of an eye, which is what happened.

 

Don was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and went through multiple treatments, ultimately ending up with an above-the-knee amputation because of cascading medical complications. While managing Don’s health challenges, Pat went through successful knee surgery and, not long after that, had a heart attack which landed her on life support for over a month. After long-awaited heart surgery, Pat fought back, was strong enough to go to rehab, and has finally made it back home. What a miracle! Don also completed rehab after his surgeries and came home just a few weeks before. Now the family has both parents at home with a seemingly endless routine of doctor appointments, arranging home healthcare, meals, laundry, the list goes on…..

 

While Pat and Don have medical insurance, there will most definitely be medical and care expenses not covered by insurance that will add up fast, but are critical to their return to health. Many friends and family members have asked what they can do to help with things such as bringing a meal, driving to appointments, or cleaning the house. Unfortunately, with COVID in full force right now, having many people in and out to help is not always possible. Their kids are doing everything they can to help, but this is more than anyone should have to handle. Any help to give this family a little breathing room while they are on the road to recovery will be greatly appreciated.
