Help the Huffman Family Battle COVID-19
Donation protected
The Troy Huffman family lives in Yucca Valley, California. Kat (31), Troy (34), and Logan, their four-year-old son, thought they had escaped COVID-19 after Kat came down with and recovered from the virus in 2020. Troy worked throughout the pandemic at the Lock Shop in Palm Desert, CA, helping people ensure the securing of their homes and businesses.
On Monday, August 2, 2021, Troy woke up with a fever and coughing. He went for a COVID test and tested positive. For the next week, he thought he could fight the illness at home (like Kat did). But, his fever continued, and on Monday, August 9, 2021, he was admitted to Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree, CA, with an oxygen level below 80. Troy's condition continued to deteriorate, and within 5 days, he was put on a respirator. And, on Wednesday, August 18th, the hospital staff advised Kat that an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine was the life support system that Troy needed to survive.
The next day, Kat was informed that Troy had been accepted by Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA, to receive treatment through an ECMO machine. At midnight on August 19th, still on a ventilator, Troy was airlifted from Hi-Desert Medical Center to the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA, where he remains in the ICU today.
Troy's condition is critical. He has a team of five doctors caring for him. He is completely sedated, is on an ECMO machine, on dialysis, and has an inflamed pancreas. Kat was allowed to see him briefly on Sunday, September 5th for the first time.
With the various support options available to offset medical expenses, the family does not know what financial challenges they face. What they do know is that travel between Yucca Valley and San Diego is expensive, their income has been reduced due to Troy not working, and that Kat cannot afford to continue to take time off.
Kat works full-time as the clinic manager for the Massage Envy franchise location in Palm Springs, CA. While her employer has been extremely flexible and understanding, Kat is still juggling being a mom with the demands of coordinating her husband's care with the physicians in La Jolla.
The Massage Envy family of clinics in Palm Springs, Palm Desert and La Quinta, California, are setting up this GoFundMe page to help Kat manage the expenses for Troy and give her some peace of mind as she cares for her young son. Please help us get the word out.
Any contributions you can provide would be truly appreciated by the Huffman family.
