Help the Hughes Family Through Adam's Battle

Donation protected
Hi all,
I’m LaVon, my husband Adam was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in June of 2021. We have two kids together. They are 6 and 8 right now and we’re 3 and 5 when he was first diagnosed.
He went to the cancer treatment center of America in Illinois the first 1.5 of his diagnosis. He nearly died twice the first summer, since his cancer was fast acting. All of 2022 his cancer was shrinking and he was feeling pretty ok then, but unfortunately in December of 2022 they discovered his cancer grew and it spread. Since then, he’s gone through 3 cycles of chemo, 2 cycles of radiation and 1 immunotherapy cycle.
This year, 2024, his cancer has spread throughout his body. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer earlier this year with multiple cancers. There’s nearly 20 spots in his brain, in his bones (from his chest to his spine to his femur bones), he has cancer in his lymph nodes (throughout his neck and chest), and now more recently this month in December, they discovered the cancer has spread again to his lungs.
Back in June of this year they gave him 3-6 months to live if he chose to not do treatments, and 1-2 years with treatments (which that depended on the treatments). We are not even sure it’ll be by the middle of 2025…
At this moment, they are pausing any treatments until his Cushing’s syndrome medication is figured out. (The cushings was caused by his cancer). The soonest he may do treatments is in mid February but the doctor doesn’t think it’ll do much other than make him feel worse than he already is. But Adam wants to fight til the end for the kids and I.

My husband and I have been working on an off as much as we can during his cancer journey. But unfortunately, we are experiencing extreme hardship financially at this time. He stopped working in July and I stopped working in August. (I did a leave of absence for a while when he was in and out of the hospital) I finally quit my job last month when we thought we were in a good financial place for me to do so. My husband needs care and our kids need me so much during this time as well. My focus has to be here at home at this time. Going back on a scheduled job is not an option for me at this time.

We applied for Social Security Disability, which we will get the first check in mid to end of February 2025. If I would have known how bad our finances were (that’s a long story), I would have tried to wait to quit until the first check but it doesn’t matter at this point.
I’m in a really horrible situation. I need to care for my husband and kids but we have only one source of income (Adam receives long term disability through his work but it hardly covers anything).
We are already a month behind on bills, I’ve reduced our expenses the best I can. I disconnected our internet and everything that goes with that. We also use the local pantries for food.
I’m a photographer, but in the winter, there is hardly any work for me. Im willing to earn some money by doing some cleaning jobs, that doesn’t take me away from my home for more than 2 hours.
Even if I did some work here and there, it won’t cover all our necessary bills to get us to February.

Thank you so much for sharing and considering helping our family.

With Blessings,
The Hughes Family
