Your help is needed after Hurricane Helene Destroyed Lake Hickory Marina!

After 15 wonderful years in a lakeside community in Minnesota, The Kelly family (Dan, Meagen, Kaden & Addison) decided it was time for a new adventure. Seven months ago, they took a leap of faith: they left their jobs, sold their home, downsized most of their belongings, and moved their kids across the country—1,200 miles—to take on the challenge of owning Lake Hickory Pub and Marina.

Since moving, they have learned a lot about running a business and have faced numerous challenges, from roof replacements and plumbing issues to septic repairs and fixing broken appliances in their aging building. Despite these setbacks, they have persevered and grown stronger.

On September 27th, Hurricane Helene struck their beautiful corner of Western North Carolina, destroying their marina. The storm washed away all five docks, along with customer and rental boats, and severely damaged their gas dock. After pouring their personal funds into the purchase and maintenance of the business, they now find themselves in urgent need of community support to rebuild. While they do have insurance, there’s a significant shortfall for the repair and replacement of the docks.

They now have a clearer picture of their needs: They aim to repair two existing docks and rebuild three docks that were damaged beyond repair. With your help, through a gift donation* and community partnerships, they hope to restore the marina and continue serving as a hub for their community. Furthermore, if they are fortunate enough to receive more than funds that they need to rebuild, they plan to donate any excess funds to disaster recovery efforts in Western North Carolina.

They have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends, family, and the community asking how they can help. Together, we can rebuild this special place "Where Lake and Life Meet."

Why is Spring Lake Association in Minnesota wanting to help the Kellys in North Carolina?

We’ve all seen stunning images from the two recent hurricanes that caused catastrophic damage to areas to the southern portions of the United States. Many of us are asking what can we do to help?

Dan, Meagen, Kaden & Addison Kelly, long-time residents of Spring Lake, who recently relocated to North Carolina, are feeling the disastrous effects of Hurricane Helene first hand.

During their time in Minnesota, the Kelly family was very active in our community. Dan was the President of the Spring Lake Association from June 2015 – April 2021. Because of their involvement, they left our Spring Lake Association Community a better place to live and recreate!
