Help the Kiefers Rebuild After Devastating Fire
My grandparents, Katherine and Dale Kiefer, have lived in their home on Bestor for over 30 years. When they bought it, the house was much more affordable—a reality that feels impossible in today’s housing market. Over the decades, their home became so much more than a house. It became the heart of our family, providing love and shelter to everyone who needed it. Every single member of our family, including myself, has lived there at some point. It was my first home here, as well as the home of my aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Tragically, their home was destroyed in a fire, and my grandparents, my aunt (a single mother), and her nearly 3-year-old son have lost everything. This is especially heartbreaking because my grandparents are now in their 80s and lack the financial means to rebuild. With the rising cost of housing and their limited resources, rebuilding feels impossible. To make matters worse, my grandmother, Katherine, is currently fighting cancer, and the cost of her treatments has already placed an overwhelming strain on their finances.
Katherine and Dale have always been hardworking, generous, and active members of the community. My grandma spent her career teaching at St. Matthew’s Parish School and Marlborough School for Girls and now volunteers as a docent at the Getty Villa. My grandpa, Dale, has dedicated his life to education as a professor at USC. They have five children, including my mother, and ten grandchildren, all of whom have been shaped by their unwavering love and support.
The fire not only destroyed their home but also irreplaceable memories. My grandma lost all her family archives and the last photos she had of her mother. The loss of these precious keepsakes breaks my heart. My grandparents are the most selfless, kind people I’ve ever known, and they do not deserve this.
I’m asking for help because I don’t know how else to support them as they try to recover from this unimaginable trauma. Even a small donation can make a difference. If 500 people donate just $20, we can raise $10,000 to help them begin rebuilding their lives.
If you have the financial means, please consider donating to help my grandparents and family. Your generosity will help restore not only their home but also the sense of stability and comfort they’ve provided to so many of us over the years.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
