Help the Kobayashis with Medical Costs
Donation protected
My name is Sarah and I am creating this GoFundMe to help my parents, Jonathan and Kim, with the financial challenge that comes with steep medical bills. In the middle of September, my dad contracted covid and he was hospitalized on October 1st. He was in the hospital for 50 days on a rollercoaster of treatment and recovery, dealing with pneumonia, respiratory failure, blood clots, unpredictable supplemental oxygen needs, and scarring in his lungs, all in isolation as a covid patient.
Every day my dad was in the hospital, he was leaning more and more into the Lord and trusting Him through it all, even in the darkest and most difficult moments. For the first few weeks, he was on high-flow oxygen and couldn't speak easily or carry on a conversation on the phone. We texted him and sent video messages over Marco Polo to support him during the long and lonely isolation. He shared that there were many times he was reminded of God's goodness and the hope that He gives us.
My dad was cleared for visitors on day 49 of his hospitalization, and my mom went to see him the next morning, day 50. She sent us a picture when she was with him, and it was so good to see them together after so long. AND THEN! Not long after she sent the picture to our family chat, she said "Miracles are abounding today! I am bringing your father home with me. Prepare the fatted calf!"
We all were absolutely shocked! It was only by God's grace and a miracle that my mom was able to visit and then bring him home the same day. My dad has been home since November 19th and while he has been regaining his strength, gaining weight, and recovering well, a 50-day hospital stay takes a toll in many ways. The medical bills from while he was in the hospital, at-home supplemental oxygen, therapies to help recovery, and medications are all very costly. They have done all they can in paying these bills and, unfortunately, there does not seem to be as much financial aid as we had hoped from the government for covid-related hardships.
In addition to recovery and making sure all of the medical costs are taken care of, the house that my parents are living in is selling and so they must move by the end of February, which also has costs of its own (definitely not as much as the medical bills, thank goodness).
There have already been so many who have been generous with their time, resources, and prayers to support my family during this time - thank you!
We are so grateful for your help and contributions to help make this an easier burden to bear.
