Help the Lampert Family

Donation protected
Sarah Lampert is one of those people we need so very much, teaching our youngsters and leading by example in Jerome, Idaho. We know Sarah through Darryl, her husband, whom we have known since 2011, but Darryl will tell you he is nothing without Sarah. And by the way, Sarah says the same about Darryl. I am awe-struck by Sarah’s resilience and humbled by Darryl’s deeply held ownership of his responsibilities. Sarah has a progressive neurological disease that affects her muscles and causes chronic pain and spasticity. As of the end of 2021 the illness has left her wheelchair bound. Through it all, she is a tower of personal strength and packs a devastating sense of humor. Sarah’s husband Darryl, devoted to his wife’s future, had just started building an accessible home for their future together when he was suddenly struck by cancer, leaving all their plans up in the air.

As of February 6, Darryl has been in chemotherapy for two days and is fighting for good results. Sarah has had to leave her job and is by her husband’s side, wheelchair be darned. Their families are all in this fight, but they are facing a tough road and could really use your help. These two wonderful people have attracted a wide group of fans and we hope you will join us in supporting Darryl and Sarah.

Their immediate needs include help with the cost of staying at Salt Lake City where Darryl is receiving treatment. Sarah also has treatment needs which are complicated when she is away from her home base for medication and therapy. And of course, the home Darryl is building to make it possible for Sarah to continue teaching is in danger, as these are working people, not part of the 1%.
We will be posting needs and goals as the picture becomes clearer, so stay tuned to this page for updates.

Darryl was diagnosed with “poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma” on 2/1/22. This is an aggressive cancer and requires aggressive treatment. Sarah took Darryl to Huntsman Cancer Institute (Salt Lake City) on February 3rd where Darryl was hospitalized following his intake appointment on February 4th. His treatment began on February 5th.

Sarah needs to get different transportation to meet the needs of taking care of Darryl while he is in treatment. Her new (thanks Darryl!) accessible car still requires her to transit from loading the wheelchair onto the back lift to her driver’s seat, and at this time she is unable to make that trip due to her illness. So, Sarah needs a car with a ramp that she can drive her chair right into and drive, and this will be a financial challenge. We will post the information as soon as we know more.
Cost of an accessible room in extended-stay is estimated at $110 per day, and one must eat as well. We will post the estimates as soon as we can.
