Help the Leichty-Melchiors recover from fire
Donation protected
Julie Melchior, Northwestern University's Council of One Hundred Secretary/Treasurer, and her family were victims of the Boulder County, CO fire last week that destroyed almost 1000 homes. The Leichty-Melchior family home and everything in and around it was completely destroyed by the devastatingly destructive fire.
Julie and Steve's daughters, Katherine and Ally, were home alone when the torrent of flames swept through the back yard and engulfed the house in an inferno. Fortunately, the kids are physically okay, as are Julie and Steve, who both eventually made it back from their separate locations to the neighborhood vicinity, where the family was reconnected. The family dog, who had bolted loose in the melee, also survived on her own overnight and is now back with the family. The pet guinea pigs were sadly less fortunate.
Julie asked me to share this tragic news with all of you. She also humbly requests that you give them a bit of breathing room, as they are understandably facing a mountain of logistic and emotional challenges. A (brief) text message is fine, if you desire, but please hold off on actual phone calls for the time being. She will also see any messages you leave here.
Please keep the Leichty-Melchior family in your thoughts and prayers. If you would like to make a donation to help the family recover, please do so here. The money will obviously be put to good and immediate use, to cover immediate expenses and replace items that were lost.
Many thanks,
Janae Bakken, Chair of the Council of One Hundred and friend of Julie*
