Help the Li family repair their home!

Donation protected
Hi folks. We are looking for donations to support Bi’s family through an incredibly difficult time.

Back in 2021, the family of four decided to move to Vancouver from rural Canada, in search of better work and school opportunities on the coast.

Bi works as an LPN, and her husband is a carpenter. They’re both dedicated to their fields, and to their children. Working up north they were able to save up and keep expenses down, but there wasn’t much for them there but the work.

By a stroke of luck, the housing market was down right when they moved to the coast, so with all their savings they were able to buy and move into their forever home!

After settling in and finding work, they realized that in order to reduce expenses, (and to be closer to their kids’ school and the work they found), it would be best for them to move to a smaller place for a few years, and rent out their family home in the meantime. This choice also allowed them to be closer to grandparents, who are aging and require more help at home.

They went through a rigorous process to select tenants for their house. They used a third-party leasing company, who did extensive background checks on potential tenants. After a long process, they rented to 2 tenants who had a stable income and no criminal record.

Then, this March, unbelievably, they got the call that their dream home was being raided by the police.

Their carefully selected, professionally vetted tenants had been using the space to cook and sell illicit substances – primarily fentanyl and meth.

The Li’s dream home was completely ruined.

It had to be completely and professionally gutted.

The costs, just to remove and replace the damage and get the house liveable again, will be (and have already been) astronomical.

Because of the drug residue, all cleaning, clearing, and remediation have to be done by costly certified specialists. In order to rebuild, they have to submit any designs and floorplans to the city, which also need to be professionally made. They can’t return to the house yet and have had to pay for inspections, boarding up, fencing, security, and lawyers, on top of everything else.

They are trying their best to keep costs down, but it has been difficult. Bi’s husband has capacity and connections as a carpenter, and as soon as they are cleared to work on the home themselves, he will take time off work to rebuild, but this will leave the family with a single source of income: Bi’s LPN wages.

They are doing everything they can to help themselves in this situation. But it’s still not enough.

$60,000 CAD sounds like a huge amount but it’s honestly just the bill that’s due soonest, and all they feel comfortable asking for right now.

After the raid, Bi has started working double shifts to help pay costs – 8 hours at one job, and then 5 at another, every day that she can. The meager savings they’d built since they bought the house is gone. They’re trying to keep as normal a routine as possible for the kids, but they haven’t had a moment to breathe since they got the news of the raid, and they’re wearing thin.

Contribution to this fund helps a family not lose their dream home and life-savings in one horrible incident. It helps the 60+ hour work weeks actually cover some costs. It helps keep this poor family from drowning.

Anything helps. Please give what you can.
