Help the Logans Get a Wheelchair Accessible Van
Donation protected
As most probably already know, the Logan family has been through an unimaginable and devastating year - starting with both of their perfectly healthy kids getting Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC), which led to Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), requiring a 4-week hospital stay for their then 2-year-old, Jacob, and 17-week hospital stay for 5-year-old, Claire. The kids had to be in St. Louis, which left Emily and Justin taking a lot of time off work.
Both kids needed multiple blood transfusions, continuous dialysis, and much more. Jacob’s kidneys have not fully recovered, but are heading in the right direction. He requires regular follow-ups and daily blood pressure medication. Claire’s kidneys have fully recovered, but she also suffered a stroke in her frontal lobe and then inflammation in the deep, watershed area of the brain due to a blood clot caused by HUS. She is in pain daily, unable to walk, talk, eat, etc., and requires extensive therapies. Her recovery will take several years.
Life really can change in the blink of an eye. At this point, the Logans need a wheelchair accessible van since Emily’s current car is not big enough for Claire’s growing long legs. Emily is only able to work part time (about half or less than she used to work) now since Claire can only attend daycare for 6 hours/day and she takes Claire to all of her appointments. Claire currently has 6-8 therapies/week, weekly chiropractor adjustments, lots of doctor appointments, etc. They are always looking for new therapies, treatments, etc. to try, so the list just keeps growing. They are doing all they possibly can to help Claire recover and get back to living a happy, pain-free life, like every child deserves.
Insurance won’t cover hardly any of Claire’s needed medical equipment, including a conversion to make a wheelchair van accessible. A wheelchair accessible van will make their day-to-day life more convenient while they continue to navigate this nightmare. Let’s help this family relieve this massive burden. Please continue to pray for them, share this page, and donate if you are able.
