Help the Mayan Community of Lanquin, Guatemala
Donation protected
Hi, we are Gabriel Pizzolatto and Max Moorman, current seniors at The Willow School in New Orleans. While visiting Guatemala we met with some community leaders in Lanquin who asked for our help.
The Mayan community in Lanquin is facing a serious threat to their rich culture and traditions. Foreign businesses have implemented large capital farming that exploit their natural resources, destroy their land, and push out traditional Mayan agricultural practices without employing many local residents.
Your donation will support a local Guatemalan initiative that focuses on reimplementing traditional diversified Mayan farming. Along with that, donations will help establish a local youth soccer team, with the goal of fostering community pride, and to provide computers and other educational resources to their local community center. Through the generosity of local youth soccer clubs we’ve already collected donations of uniforms, shinguards, cleats, and balls that this campaign will send to Lanquin.
Our goal is to help empower the K'iche' people, to create a community that is proud of their indigenous history and cultural practices. As globalization and economic inequality continue to impact native cultures around the world, it's important to raise awareness and support efforts to preserve their heritage in any capacity.

UPDATE!!!!
Thank you all so much for your donations! We wanted to update you on the meaningful cause you all supported that is making real change in the community of Lanquin, Guatemala. Your donations were used to purchase chromebooks which will be used in the town's community center. These will help provide better education access to their youth. Along with the chromebooks, your donations helped fund a few other projects around the community. One of these was the construction of a solar dryer which will be used to process cocoa harvested nearby. Finally, we were able to successfully donate hundred of pounds of soccer gear to Lanquin, which helped start a youth community soccer team in their community. Thank you so much for your support!!!!
