Help the McCargar Family

My name is Dan McCargar. I am a 52 year old male. I have a beautiful Wife Kimberly, and 3 Daughters. Haley (19), Brooke (16), and Kayla (13).

I have worked as a Correctional Officer for 24.2 years serving Jefferson county NY. Last year I developed Perephial neuropathy in my legs which makes it difficult for me to walk unassisted. 8 months shy of my 25 year retirement, I was forced out of work without pay. I have been without pay since December 2022. This has created an extreme hardship on my Family. My Wife is working 3 jobs 7 days a week and wearing herself to the bone. But even then we are still short for our monthly payments. My oldest Daughter has had to postpone going to college because I just don't have the money right now.

I have been going to a neurologist to try to find the reason I developed this disability but my appointments are 3hrs away and over $100 a trip adds up fast.

I have lost over 80% of the quality of my life due to this illness as I have always been an outdoors person and love spending time in the woods with my two youngest Daughters hunting, fishing, etc. I also can't make it to their softball games to cheer them on. It's been devastating.

I applied for NYS disability retirement but it will take up to 2 years for it to take effect. At that point it will be difficult for me to save our home, vehicles, or even heat our house.

I am just asking for a little help, and trust me, this is degrading as hell, and embarrassing for me as I have never asked for a handout my entire life, to get us through and make our mortgage payments, insurance, groceries, etc. Until I can have a steady income again.

I have worked 42 years of my life and this is the last way I ever thought it would end.

I have always helped anybody, anytime, in any way that I could, and unfortunately it's my turn to need a little help. From Family, Friends, and the people of Jefferson county that I served for over 20 years.
