Help the McCord Family Recover After Altadena Fire

Donation protected
The McCord family lost their home of over 30 years overnight on Tuesday 1/7 in the Eaton fire. Mary Jo and Roosevelt were forced to evacuate quickly in the darkness, with little more than their dogs and the clothes on their backs.

This loss is beyond devastating to them as a working class family who built their slice of paradise in the beautiful Altadena community that they loved. Mary Jo and Roosevelt lost not only a home, but priceless artifacts of their 46 years together and the two children they raised here, Miranda and Robert, who also live in the community and whose residences have been affected by this tragedy as well.

The McCord home was a constant hub for gatherings and a safe place filled with joy for so many of us family and friends of the McCord kids over the years. We want to support them emotionally and help them out financially now as they have been there for us so many times.

I am Amanda-Faye Jimenez, their niece, and the McCords are like second parents to me in our extremely close family. Their mental and physical health and security as seniors is so very important right now! Every cent collected here will be used to make sure they and their two dogs are safe and secure, have their temporary needs met, and anything else not covered by other forms of aid.

Altadena is a diverse, close-knit community where Black and brown families were able to thrive and build their dreams. Roosevelt and Mary Jo are retired seniors who worked their whole lives for CalTrans and the City of Los Angeles, respectively, and it would mean so much to us to keep their beautiful dream alive and help them stay here. Please help us by donating if you can and sharing widely.
